The Ingenuity Project is a 501C3 nonprofit whose mission is to prepare the next diverse generation of nationally competitive STEM leaders from Baltimore City Public Schools. For almost 20 years, the Ingenuity Project (a 501c3 nonprofit) has worked in collaboration with the Baltimore City Public School System to provide students in grades 6-12 with a free, accelerated, and challenging math, science, and research program. Ingenuity delivers math and science curriculum through a team of highly qualified math and science teachers with, on average, 10 or more years of experience and degrees in mathematics and science. Students enter the program through an application and testing process. Ingenuity currently serves close to 600 Baltimore City students in three middle schools (Mount Royal, Roland Park, and Hamilton) and a high school program at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute. In 2019-20, Ingenuity will open a new middle school program at James McHenry Elementary Middle School beginning with two classes of 6th grade. Ingenuity has a unique expertise in cultivating and growing gifted and advanced learners. Ingenuity middle school student growth exceeds national averages in math and science, and students consistently leave the Ingenuity project in middle school with a deep mastery of high school Algebra I and readiness for honors high school science. Students are also given opportunities for enrichment through afterschool and summer programs. Responsibilities: ABOUT THE POSITION The Development Director will be responsible for supporting the Executive Director and Board of Directors in the following areas. Responsibilities: Grant Writing (30% of role) -Research, write and submit government, foundation, and corporate grants to renew existing grants and to new prospects. Identify potential national foundation prospects. -Participate in project planning meetings as requested prior to grant development. -Draft grant submissions with support from ED and program staff -Understand the program's priorities in order to create grants that support those priorities -Track timelines and due dates for grant submissions and reports Cultivating Individual Donors (25% of role) -Works with Executive Director to maintain relationships with existing and prospective donors through regular calls, coffee, notes. -Launch a fall and spring campaign for donations with parents, alumni, and other supporters. -Manage and report on donor information using our donor software system (Bloomerang). -Generate and mail thank you notes and acknowledgement letters to donors and volunteers. -Design and cultivate a workplace giving campaign, and keep current filing status and registrations updated. Events (20% of role) -Plan 2-3 annual fundraising business breakfasts or lunches with support of Board members. -Plan spring fundraiser event with support of Board, staff, and parent volunteers. -Create and implement sponsorship and ticket sales promotions with Ingenuity families, local businesses and universities. Marketing & Outreach (15% of role) -Manage external consultants to do the following: -Develop and publish annual reports. -Maintain website and newsletter content, such as events, fundraisers, news and student accomplishments. -Send out press releases to public on student and program accomplishments. -Opportunity to develop and manage an intern program with local colleges. Board (10% of role) -Attend 4 annual board meetings to know the board and present updates on fundraising efforts -Work with volunteer committees to identify people and organizations who can support Ingenuity QUALIFICATIONS -Deep commitment to the mission of providing quality, accelerated educational programming for middle and high school students in Baltimore City. -Strong persuasive writing skills for grant writing and donor development. -Outgoing and enjoys meeting new people and establishing trusting relationships. -Creative - A desire to use creativity to attract supporters, investors, and volunteers and launch exciting campaigns that draw attention to the program. -Ability to stay well organized, manage and meet deadlines, work independently and collaboratively -Ability to take direction and drive for results. -Experience in fundraising, grant writing, marketing, public relations, communications, or related fields preferred. -Experience planning and organizing events a plus. -Computer literate (working knowledge of word processing, PowerPoint, Excel). Ability to learn how to maintain basic website content helpful. -Comfort designing and updating fliers, marketing materials, website content and social media content.
