POSITION SUMMARY The Senior Director of Human Resources will work with other members of the Finance HR team to provide a strategic human resources perspective to the finance discipline and translate business strategy into human resources practices that build organizational capability to meet business goals. He/she will support efforts to strengthen the finance organization by contributing their knowledge and expertise to apply talent management and organizational capability best practices and develop sustainable solutions. He/she will also partner with HR Services to ensure the delivery of general HR services to the finance organization and develop relationships across the discipline in order to provide guidance on human resources issues. Leveraging human resources practices, technology and partners (COEs and Shared Services) across MI; help develop approaches to: Assess headquarters-based Finance talent and provide development and performance management coaching Develop broad talent capable of taking on broader assignments across the global Finance organization Administer market and internally competitive pay and benefits practices to attract and retain world-class talent Partner with Org Capability to assess workflows, structures and processes; partner with Change Management to identify and pull through resulting change impact to department/organization Oversee programmatic Communications for HQ Finance, including Take Care and the Exchange EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS Keep abreast of emerging issues to determine strategic implications for talent management and organizational capability; provide advice to key stakeholders, determine appropriate strategies and plans to meet the needs. Partnering with assigned finance leaders, facilitate the development and implementation of initiatives that drive associate engagement, reinforce company culture, and engender commitment from associates Lead Organizational Capability resources and work for assigned groups and partner with Global Finance leadership to ensure that organizational structures and processes are aligned with business goals, work processes/systems are efficient and can be leveraged across the discipline, and roles and accountabilities are clearly defined and aligned with key priorities and a shared vision with decisions made at the right level. Provide leadership in the attraction, development and retention of diverse high caliber talent to ensure there is a pipeline of talent to fill key positions and minimize single person dependencies for assigned groups. Implement talent strategies for assigned groups to develop broad talent capable of taking on broader assignments. Assess current and future talent needs based on business levels and growth plans, develop plans and programs to address both talent and skill gaps. Work with recruiters to ensure positions for assigned groups are filled with individuals best meeting the profile and job specification. Apply personal expertise in talent assessment to facilitate optimal staffing decisions and development planning for key jobs. Collaborate with Business Partners of assigned groups to ensure that organization / job design and work processes / systems are aligned with key priorities. Also ensure that roles and responsibilities are clearly articulated and defined to enable decisions to be made at the right level. Champion key HR processes throughout the year (eg performance & compensation management, engagement, etc.) and ensure business partners understand implications of their recommendations and decisions. Work with assigned finance leaders to develop and act on a diversity strategy plan including having diverse candidate slates for key jobs, and identifying and developing high potential diverse talent. Consult with business leaders of assigned groups on managing performance within their organization and ensure that optimal business decisions are made that protect and strengthen Marriott culture and brand. Coach to build a performance and feedback culture within assigned client teams. Work with client teams to identify and address associate engagement challenges. Lead and facilitate succession planning activities for assigned groups that support the business growth strategy. Assess future talent needs based on business growth plans and retention metrics. Develop and implement tools and processes to identify and track global talent to enable identification of ready candidates for job openings. Apply personal expertise in talent assessment to facilitate optimal development planning. Facilitate and work with Compensation to analyze and administer market and internally competitive reward practices to attract and retain talent across client teams. Develop proactive, knowledgeable, consultative partnerships within client teams. Coach to build a performance and feedback culture within client teams. Work with client teams to identify and address Engagement Survey (ES) challenges. Develop processes to identify and act on organizational learning needs. Develop tools and processes to ensure training compliance for HQ Finance. Help develop training and required experience strategies to enhance leadership, management and technical skills. Lead the summer internship program for Finance. Partner with University Relations to maintain and enhance worldwide campus relationships to recruit Finance talent and leverage recruiting efforts for summer intern needs. Lead HQ Finance communications process by developing emails, documents, newsletters and information for finance website in order to keep associates informed on programs, initiatives, and processes. Creates communications to finance leaders for annual processes (Performance & Compensation, Engagement Survey, etc.) as well as initiatives (Take Care) and ad-hoc programs. Develops the periodic Exchange newsletters for HQ and Global Market Finance on behalf of the CFO and Continent leaders, respectively. Oversee the maintenance and updates for the Global Finance intranet website (eg, content updates, site format, posting, etc.). Partner with the MGS architect to develop the branding and "look and feel" of the site to ensure information is current and associates can find information easily. Lead the Engagement Survey (ES) process for HQ Finance including the following: registration of associates and assignment to appropriate groups & subgroups; ensuring proper access for leaders to ES results and Action Plans, communicating results including developing an Executive Summary for the CFO. Provide HR leadership to finance's People Development Team to ensure programs align with the discipline's talent management strategy. Lead the team to provide learning & development sessions for professional development, career management and peer learning. Identifies training gaps and assesses/obtains resources (internally and externally) to fill gaps (eg, CPE training). Also oversees the mentor program. Develop the strategy for the severance process resulting from finance reorganizations, including developing the timeline, communications, and change management approach as well as partnering with HR Shared Services for the execution. Set goals and expectations for direct report using the Leadership Performance Acceleration (LPA) and holds staff accountable for successful performance; coaches team by providing specific feedback to improve performance; conducts annual performance appraisal with staff. Candidate Profile Experience, Skills and Knowledge Strong business acumen and analytical skills; working knowledge of Excel Excellent communication skills; ability to develop presentations in Powerpoint Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently and be a strong team player on the broader team Ability to work in a matrix organization, partnering with resources to achieve results through others Ability to translates business needs into priorities and execute against those effectively securing necessary resources and monitoring progress against plans Develops and maintains effective relationships and deals effectively with a broad group of stakeholders; influences without direct management authority Cultural sensitivity/ leveraging diversity. Understand and effectively manage in a diverse global work environment Orchestrating systemic change - Initiates, supports and manages change within the organization, taking steps to remove barriers or to accelerate its pace Straightforward and constructive approach to dealing with conflict. Strong negotiation and mediation skills Ability to build stakeholder loyalty and influence strategies and outcomes Education or Certification College degree required Advanced degree (MBA/MS) or PHR/SPHR certification preferred Minimum 10 years of human resources experience in positions of increasing responsibility at the management level Work experience as a Human Resources Generalist and broad experience base in various key human resource management areas such as talent management and development, workforce planning, employee relations, recruitment, compensation, performance management and coaching, organizational design and change management.
