To combat these environmental challenges, we rely on a 300 person strong Fundraising staff and more than two hundred thousand supporters across the United States that give their all in our fight together for a green and peaceful future. As such, we are hiring a highly qualified Deputy Chief Development Officer (DCDO) to lead the strategy, implementation and day-to-day operations of Greenpeace USA's fundraising programs for Greenpeace Fund (a 501c3 organization), including: the Major Donors and Foundations Program; the Direct Marketing to Annual Donor (mail, telemarketing, etc); Planned Giving, and the Partners in Action monthly donor retention programs. The DCDO is critical in developing Greenpeace's capacity to raise essential support to sustain the organization and expand its long term impact, and serves on the Development Leadership Team. They will work in close collaboration with Greenpeace's Global Major Gifts Managers and global stakeholders to identify key opportunities that dramatically increase support for the global organization's strategic priorities. In collaboration with the Development leadership team, the DCDO will develop and implement a robust donor advancement system throughout all Greenpeace Fund donor programs. This system will effectively identify prospective high-value supporters and cultivate fruitful, long-term relationships-through meaningful messaging and strategic stewardship and engagement-to secure donations for Greenpeace Campaigns. The successful candidate will be an innovative, and entrepreneurial, development professional with a track record of securing a variety of major gifts and the ability to inspire, motivate and lead our Fundraising staff. They will also have significant experience managing large, diverse, and complex teams to achieve significant growth; and experience managing major gifts and foundations programs, planned giving and mid-level monthly donor programs. This is an exempt, full-time position, benefits eligible position reporting to the Chief Development Officer based in Washington, DC. The Deputy Chief Development Officer will: Provide world class leadership to the Major Gifts, Foundations and Planned Giving Teams, motivating, coaching and developing fundraisers committed to engagement and diversifying our donor base and developing a clear vision and fundraising plan to achieve ambitious long-term financial growth for the organization. Oversees the development, testing and implementation of new and creative fundraising programs to attract new donors and upgrade current donors to the mid-level and major level. Provide leadership to development managers in executing the implementation of annual and multi-year development strategies and plans for all aspects of Greenpeace USA's fundraising program, including short- and long-term measurable goals. Supervising all aspects of the $18 million dollar revenue and $2 million dollar expenditure development budgets, including development, implementation, tracking, and regular reporting to staff, the senior management team and the boards of directors. Drive development and implementation of the Stewardship and Engagement calendar for the Development Department in partnership with the Program Engagement Director and Campaigns Director, including protocols for messaging and engagement outreach. Integrate fundraising programs and strategies within the department and across the organization, working closely with the Online team on multichannel donor acquisition, cultivation and retention. Engage diverse audiences in Greenpeace's fundraising work, reaching the diversity of Americans who care about our environment. Work in partnership with international fundraising teams and key global stakeholders, for international fundraising campaign program development, identifying areas for significant major gifts growth as well as factors for success that need to be addressed and providing recommendations to Greenpeace Global Growth Committee and leadership Partner with the Senior Management Team, Development managers, Board of Directors, and programmatic staff to cultivate a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization. Work closely with the programmatic leadership and teams in the development, implementation, and evaluation of Greenpeace USA's integrated public communications strategies. Regularly monitor and review all vendors providing services to Greenpeace Fund's Development program against agreed budgets and performance criteria ensuring increasing ROI. Ensure clear, accurate, and consistent reporting and communication between the Finance and Development departments, reviewing and tracking annual and long-term income and expenditure budgets for Annual Giving, Major Gifts and Foundations, Planned Giving, and International Fundraising. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports and financial analyses for the Senior Management Team as well as presentations for the Board(s) of Directors on progress toward financial goals, and provide guidance and direction to achieve objectives. In collaboration with the Board Fundraising Chair, determine increased fundraising goals and objectives based on projections and oversee the process of fundraising staff partnering with board members to reach goals, including 100 percent board personal giving. Work closely with the Senior Management team on organizational development strategy. Minimum requirements include: 7 to 10 years of proven success in major gits, foundations and or planned giving for advocacy related issues, and at least five years in a managing large and complex teams. Extensive experience in leadership positions for major gifts, planned giving, foundations programs and mid-level donor programs - online talent a PLUS. Additional include, but are not limited to: Entrepreneurship, including a proven ability to develop and execute new fundraising models. Experience with personally cultivating and soliciting high-value supporters and directly engaging board members with fundraising efforts. Ability to serve as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team working on organizational strategy and planning. Strong management skill set and the ability to motivate, inspire, and develop a diverse staff, including team members working around the world. Experience implementing and managing the operational infrastructure required for a successful development program, including database systems and vendor and finance management. Ability to work closely across departments and teams to develop and execute communications, marketing, or public relations strategies to support resource development. Strong commitment to strengthening and increasing awareness within the organization of fundraising as a form of activism, communication, and education, and Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent experience; graduate degree preferred.
