Summary
The Policy and Programs Intern will assist the Public Policy Institute's (PPI) policy and program development related to Livable Communities (LC) and Long Term Services and Supports (LTSS). The individual will join a team at the forefront of providing solutions in LC and LTSS and help to move the work forward in several areas: assistance with implementing the livable communities' enterprise plan, promoting solutions for America's Housing and Transportation needs through our Future of Housing and Future of Transportation initiatives, supporting local outreach, and providing assistance in LTSS.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include
1. Project management.
2. Writing materials.
3. Assessing effectiveness of our efforts through quantitative and qualitative analysis.
4. Building and developing relationships with communications colleagues throughout the Enterprise.
5. Providing innovative ideas to enhance and expand our overall efforts.
Intern will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of Enterprise initiatives to include, but not limited to: Livable Communities, Long Term Services and Supports, and Family Caregiving
Requirements
Prospective intern must be currently enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college or university; and be considered rising graduate students, or post doctorate students.
AARP also considers non-traditional interns who are looking to re-enter the workforce or change careers. This may include those who have previously graduated college and are now enrolled in a continuing education program.
Students currently pursuing a master's degree or PhD may apply. Candidates should have knowledge of one or more of these issues: urban planning, public policy, public affairs, government, caregiving, transportation, housing, aging, LTSS.
This position requires someone with a high degree of organization, an ability to see the "big picture" and understand the level of detail needed to ensure success along the way. Creativity and initiative are critical for this role. Social media management skills will also be helpful.
A successful candidate is very organized, focuses on details (very important skill set for this position), able to juggle multiple projects, able to work in teams but also function independently. Writing skills are necessary for this position so candidates will be asked to demonstrate writing competency.
