The Enterprise Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team at Capital One is currently seeking leaders to help inform, lead, and enable our culture shift of balancing innovation with reliability. A successful individual in this role will have a high degree of influence and partner closely with our Divisional partners. They will need a strong understanding of software Engineering and operations with a desire to lead, manage, mentor, and build an extremely talented engineering organization with a true DevOps mentality both developing enabling capabilities while educating, consulting, and elevating our software delivery partners in relation to the common SRE disciplines. You must also have the ability to attract and recruit the industry's best talent, and simultaneously have the technical chops to ensure that what we build compelling, customer oriented solutions in an iterative methodology. Success in the role requires an innovative mind, a proven track record of delivering cloud-based services, rigorous analytical skills, and a passion about both driving new capabilities while enabling a key focus on availability and quality. General Responsibilities: Help evolve and lead a lean best-in-class SRE organization responsible for enterprise-wide stability, resiliency, and chaos testing. Successfully develop an SRE methodology that will transform the way we architect and design our applications moving forward. Understand current capabilities and needs, and then chart a course for the future. Serve as a thought leader, not only reacting to business needs but also gaining buy-in for the adoption of forward-leaning solutions. Leverage industry credibility to influence senior tech leaders across our 9,500-person tech organization. Have an enterprise vs project-focused mindset, driving large-scale change. Assess current tools and frameworks ensuring the adoption of cutting-edge technology not simply because it's shiny and new, but because it's the best overall solution.] Lead strategy to build tools and services for application service teams to operate highly reliable software systems at scale Experience working in an agile environment and empowering teams to increase efficiency, ship faster, learn more and solve faster Drive the business and technology roadmaps and ensure alignment to the technology strategy and standards. Instill KPIs and key metrics to determine success. Assist with our 100% migration to the public cloud (AWS). Set a high bar for engineering and operational excellence and reduction of technical debt. Place a key focus on talent. Build and manage a high performing team. Serve as an inspiring role model, a leader the team wants to emulate. Attract, hire and retain key engineering talent, building a world-class organization. Up to 10% domestic travel Basic Qualifications Bachelor's Degree or military experience At least 5 years of experience working in Site Reliability Engineering At least 5 years of combined experience with roadmaps, use case creation, strategy development, KPI development, and business partner relationship management At least 5 years of experience in Strategy Development At least 10 years of experience in People Management Preferred Qualification Extensive technology background; tenure with forward-leaning world-class organization. The ideal candidate will have started their career as a software engineer and moved up to an executive leadership role Forward leaning and innovative. Has created sophisticated industry-leading best practices, versus merely "catching up". Skilled in partnering closely with and influencing the most senior internal stakeholders to successfully ensure SRE organization is viewed as a key strategic enabler. Superior technical proficiency; well versed with the public cloud (AWS, Azure, or Google) Intellectually curious; interested in understanding and experimenting with new methods. Ability to establish credibility with, as well as motivate and mentor, highly technical engineers. Demonstrated ability to employ judgment and experience to make rapid and complex decisions. Strong team builder and leader. Well-honed coaching skills with the ability and passion for developing one's direct reports.
