Provide strategic legal counsel and privacy advice to key internal business partners (eg Human Resources, Sales Operations and Marketing, Product Engineering) and work to understand their business processes, applications, projects and technologies to ensure compliance with privacy laws and embed privacy and data security requirements and controls into projects, products and services. Interact with key business partners and provide creative and thoughtful legal advice and support to the BlackBerry business while mitigating legal risks and ensuring adherence to corporate policies, as well as laws and regulations. Work as part of a broader privacy and cyber security team overseeing and drafting privacy and data security policies, notices, standards, controls and other practices cross functionally as part of matrixed global business operations. Draft, review and support commercial negotiations regarding data privacy and data security contractual provisions in a wide variety of commercial agreements to ensure the company complies with cross-border data transfer restrictions and data localization requirements with respect to both intra-company transfers and transfers to third parties. Participate in a key role to support the BlackBerry Incident Response Team in the review and coordination and management of potential privacy or data security incidents, including investigations, notifications, and other resolution efforts. Develop, review, and deliver (or coordinate) targeted and focused privacy training materials (including customer facing materials) as appropriate and support efforts to raise awareness about BlackBerry's privacy and data security program, data handling practices, procedures and legal obligations. Oversee the customer facing privacy mailbox and manage responses from customers, partners, and queries from regulatory agencies. Work with the Data Protection Officer and Cyber Security team to lead, manage and guide risk and perform product and system data protection impact assessments. Participate in and support efforts of audit (internal and external) to assess the effectiveness of compliance activity. Monitor current and evolving statutes, regulations, and case law and help to identify legal issues of critical importance to the company. JD or LLB and admitted to practice law within the Canada/US, or United Kingdom. Strong knowledge of global privacy regimes (GDPR, PIPEDA, US Sectoral areas) and keen interest in staying abreast of global privacy developments. CIPP certifications a plus (eg CIPP-E). Significant experience working as a trusted advisor, excellent judgment and good business sense. Multifaceted privacy experience with large enterprise and/or global software & services organizations. The proven ability to use your knowledge to help the business deal with privacy related matters. Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment while organizing and managing multiple responsibilities and projects with competing priorities and deadlines. Excellent presentation and communication skills with internal departments, as well as external clients and vendors. Experience working with, and presenting to, cross functional teams and clients. Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop strong relationships across all levels of the organization, a positive attitude, thoughtfulness as well as collaboration and creativity.
