Position SummaryThe Director of Financial Planning & Analysis will assist with several key functions within Finance including Forecasting, Budgeting, Board and Management Reporting Packages, Physician Productivity andP & L Reporting. In this role, the Director will be working closely with the CFO, Controller and Senior Leadership to implement and sustain many of the department's key functions. As a Director, this role will be asked to provide leadership in a variety of challenging ways, make significant contributions in a relatively short time, take responsibility for prioritization of work within the department, act as a mentor to staff within the department, and deliver creative, compelling and financially sound analytics. This Director will be asked to collaborate across finance, and Operating Units and throughout the system functions for all areas of responsibility.Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.FINANCIAL PLANNING & ANALYTICS:Responsible for designing and managing MFA's annual Financial Planning process. This includes developing the annual Operating and Capital Budget Workplan and guiding the organization through the annual process and updating the Long Range Financial Plan.Responsible for hiring and managing a team of expert staff to manage budgeting planning and report Systems.Responsible for providing MFA with the departmental financial variance reporting platform for monthly performance of volume, revenue and expense.Work closely with the CEO, COO, Revenue Cycle, and appropriate leadership teams to document all global volume, revenue, and expense assumptions used for the annual operating budget.In collaboration with the Contracting Team and Controller build the net revenue model for the Operating Budget.Support the Monthly financial close process with accurate budgeting data as requested.Act as the main access point for Operational executives and management teams regarding all budgetary issues or concerns.Prepare and present necessary performance tracking material and schedules to MFA Leadership. Prepare key schedules for Board meeting, and other external audiences as requested.Responsible for coordinating and reviewing pro formas for new business initiatives. This includes coordinating with finance staff to ensure consistent assumptions and criteria are used to evaluate initiatives.PERFORMANCE TRACKING:Responsible for managing the annual Labor Benchmarking Process for all Operating Units and Functional Areas within MFA. This includes objectively setting labor standards based on the best benchmarking information available.Create and publish accurate and timely labor productivity reports that reflect both the Operating Budget and Benchmark targets for all areas.Track and publish Operating Unit performance metrics as defined in the annual operating plan.Responsible for recommending and implementing the highest quality data visualization tools for all areas of Performance Tracking,Create and maintain key daily, weekly, and /or monthly financial and operational reports to support good decision making.Prepare and present necessary performance tracking material and schedules to Operating Unit and MFA Leadership. Prepare key schedules for meetings, and other external audiences as requested.FINANCIAL MODELING:Complete revenue modeling analysis for all volume based and value based contracts including contract structures such as per diem, case rate, shared savings, narrow network, partial capitation, and global capitation structures.Prepare and present necessary revenue modeling material and schedule (including performance trending and projected performance analysis) to MFA leadership and other audiences as requested.Will work closely with the Revenue Cycle to integrate the revenue modeling estimated net revenue data into areas of Revenue Cycle as appropriate.Develop real time financial forecast model to include Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Cash FlowsOPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:Prepare and maintain operating procedures.Provide troubleshooting support and maintain up-to-date end-user applications.Ability to actively manage and deliver on expectations around project activities, timelines, deliverables, outcomes, etc.Provide to the organization excellent analysis utilizing all software available in the department including the following software: Operating Budget, business intelligence, revenue modeling, and other software as needed.Make recommendations regarding all software investments that help to inform excellent financial analytics.Comply with the standards, policies, procedures and processes for the creating, consumption and reporting of financial data, including service level agreements.Test designs and analytical methods and make recommendations for their utilization.Responsible for remaining up-to-date on all Federal, State, and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements, which apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance with all such laws and regulationsComplies with all aspects of the MFA Corporate Compliance Plan to include the immediate reporting of any known or suspected illegal or unethical behaviors, criminal conduct or patient/employee safety violations or issues.This document represents the major duties, responsibilities, and authorities of this job, and is not intended to be a complete list of all tasks and functions. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Education Bachelor's degree in Accounting & Finance, Economics, Health Care Management, or other related area and at least 5 years total and 2 years healthcare system experience required. CPA preferred. Experience Broad understanding of health care financial and reporting environment. Significant industry knowledge of the economics of medical services.Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.Excellent customer service, project management and strategic planning skills.Knowledge with Cognos, Great Plains, Allscripts and GE.Competencies Ability to do math calculations, input data into the computer, and analyze data as requested. Must be able to communicate providing verbal feedback in a professional manner. Must be able to follow and understand instructions, and react favorably in all work situations. Must be mentally adaptable and flexible in dealing with a variety of people. Ability to build and maintain accurate financial forecast models.
