The Georgetown University Sports Medicine Department, as part of the Georgetown Athletic Department, exists to provide high quality health care to all Georgetown intercollegiate student athletes. As part of a university community rooted in the Jesuit tradition, the Sports Medicine Department commits itself to the comprehensive care and development of the student athlete. The Assistant Athletics Trainer enhances the experience of intercollegiate student athletes by providing a safe and healthy environment for practice and competition. Under the direction of the Head Athletics Trainer, duties of the Assistant Athletics Trainer include but are not limited to:
- Provides student-athletes with initial injury and illness evaluations, referrals, follow-up evaluations, wound care, injury treatment, emergency cardiac care with AED and other emergency care, injury rehabilitation, taping and bracing, and over the counter medicines.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and timely documentation of medical records and injury documentation for each student-athlete treated.
- Adheres to the Sports Medicine Policies and Procedures and the NATA Code of Professional Conduct.
- Performs additional administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred
- Current NATABOC certification
- Must meet criteria for certification as established by the NATA with respect to CEU's
- Ability to work confidently in a crisis or emergency situation and demonstrate knowledge of safety practices
- Knowledge of University and Department philosophies, policies and regulations
- Knowledge of NCAA regulations
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments
- Strong interpersonal skills that demonstrate an ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
- Ability to foster a cooperative work environment
- Valid driver's license with good driving record; must be insurable
- Proficient in computer use and relevant Microsoft applications
- Available weekends and evenings
