Requirements

The Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs seeks a more just and peaceful world by deepening knowledge and solving problems at the intersection of religion and global affairs through research, teaching, and engaging multiple publications. Two premises guide the center's work: that a comprehensive examination of religion and norms is critical to address complex global challenges, and that the open engagement of religious and cultural traditions with one another can promote peace.

The Communications Associate ("CA") i s responsible for writi ng , producing , and editing content across a range of medi a products that drives key organizational messages and communications initi atives and el evates the Berkley Center's ( " Center ' s " ) reputation for thought leadership and cutting-edge research at the intersection of reli gion and world affairs. S /he writes, edits , and publishes blogs, op-eds, social media posts, digital features , podcasts, and video scripts. Reporting to the Associate Director for Programs and Outreach, the Communications Associate has additional duties that include but are not limited to:

Web Content Development
  • Researches , outli nes , drafts , and edits bylined content for Center faculty and some affiliates - often on ti ght deadlines, where content may be published on Center or external websites.
  • Di stills academic reports into audience-driven, easily consumable pi eces of content.
  • Manages and occ a s i ona l ly writes for the Berkley Forum (blog) .
  • Uploads digital content i nto content management system.
  • Manages s e l ect content projects.


Social Media Content Development
  • Crafts social medi a content for the organization.
  • Supports execution of so cial media campai gns for priority initi atives.
  • A s s i sts with ne w s letters and other mass-maili n g s .


Multimedia Content Development
  • Develops digital features (including audio/video content) for Center and Georgetown websites.
  • Takes part in multimedi a content production from storyboard i ng to inter v i e w ing and editi ng , occasionally overseeing projects from beginning to end.


Publication/Proposal Edi ting and Writ i ng
  • Edits publications from i nitial draft s through to final layout, i ncluding providing substantive edits to early drafts.
  • Drafts or edits grant/gift proposals, donor collateral, and short research pi eces li ke background memos.


Qualificati ons
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience writi ng or editing one or more of the following: newsletters, magazines, annual reports, website articles/stori es, campaign brochures, blogs/op-eds, research publicati ons
  • Demonstrated exceptional writ i ng and proofread i ng skills
  • Exper i ence coordinating mult i p l e projects with i nterest in r e l i g i on and world affairs


Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to synthesize comp l ex information from different sources and disciplines into compelling arguments
  • An audience-d r i ven approach to writ i n g
  • Experience using web content management systems and social media pl atforms
  • Strong time management and organizational skills,and the ability to meet ti ght deadlines
  • Strong oral and wr i tten communicat i on skills, with the ability to articu l ate i deas in a compelling manne r
  • Experience producing video and audio products
  • Knowl edge and application of current and evolving trends in communications and content design
  • Practi cal knowledge of marketing and branding principles
  • Facility with Adobe software , part i cu l arly I nDes i gn
  • Prior coursework in relig i on, especially at the graduate l evel
  • Background in creative wr i ting or journali sm
