Early Intervention Specialist Part C Service Coordinator Temporary Position The City of Alexandria is located in northern Virginia and is bordered by the District of Columbia (Potomac River), Arlington and Fairfax counties. An Overview The Early Intervention Specialist / Part C Service Coordinator will work in a team with program staff and community sources to provide a continuum of services to infants/toddlers and families in an effort to strengthen and preserve families, assist in identifying individual needs, and provide and assist in coordinating services to meet each individual's needs. This position provides individualized developmental services and family support that promote the development of children and increases the self-sufficiency of families as outlined under Part C of The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and its supporting regulations. The Early Intervention Specialist / Part C Service Coordinator provides case management, consultative and direct services to individuals with developmental delays and disabilities, birth to age three and their families, to ensure that infants and toddlers with developmental delays and disabilities receive necessary services commensurate to their needs. What You Should Bring The ideal candidate should have an understanding of the historical, legal and organizational components that provide the foundation and guiding principles of Virginia's Part C early intervention system; knowledge of relevant federal legislation and regulations, and state policies and procedures that provide a foundation for the Infant & Toddler Connection of Virginia. They should have the ability to provide families with the information they need to make informed decisions with regard to the transition; ability to design appropriate transition strategies with the family, promote successful transitions into, within and out of early intervention services through the planning process. The Opportunity Serves as parent primary contact for obtaining and coordinating services and assistance needed for the entire length of time of the child's Early Intervention services; Conducts routine based intake interviews to develop family centered goals and objectives; Conducts developmental screening across developmental domains and makes recommendations for further developmental assessment as needed; Ensures that required procedural safeguards are implemented and fully explained to families within federally required guidelines; Assesses child and family needs and develops a comprehensive plan that includes supports and services; Monitors and coordinates the provision of services, client satisfaction with services and progress toward outcomes; Documents case management activities and clinical treatment utilizing an electronic health records system and ensures that records are in compliance with Federal, State and Departmental regulations; Actively monitors and coordinates early intervention services through face to face meetings and telephone conferences that include the family and other team members; Assists families with formulating, coordinating, and implementing the transition plan for children exiting the Early Intervention system; Performs related work as required. About the Department The Center for Children and Families (CCF) provides programs and services for Behavioral Health, Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault, Child Welfare & Child Protective Services, Early Childhood and Youth Development. CCF provides compassionate, collaborative and effective person and family-centered services based on best practices. Our teams support self-determination, safety, recovery and resiliency for Alexandria children and all residents affected by abuse, neglect, mental illness, intellectual disabilities and substance abuse disorders. Minimum & Additional Requirements Four Year Degree in allied health, child and family studies, early childhood; human development; psychology, public health, nursing; counseling; social work; special education or other related field approved by the State Lead Agency. Must be certified by the State Lead Agency as an Early Intervention Professional or, Early Intervention Specialist, or Early Intervention Case manager; Must meet the current discipline-specific qualifications specified by the State Part C Lead Agency; Employees must have a valid driver's license. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Social Work, Education, Psychology or other related Allied Health/ Human Service field. Infant Mental Health certification, endorsement, or waiver; Certification, registration or licensure as a Social Worker, Family Therapist, Counselor, Assistant Behavior Analyst; Behavior Analyst, Educator, Allied Health Services Therapist or Psychologist. Two years in the infant, early childhood, and family mental health field OR two years post masters clinical experience. One year of case management experience. Bilingual English/Spanish or other locally prevalent languages needed by the program. Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00AM to 5:00PM
