About the Position The Senior Staff Accountant is a key position within Digital Promise's Finance and Operations Team, reporting to the Comptroller. The Senior Accountant is responsible for maintaining and controlling general ledger accounts, recording financial transactions of the organization, applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and providing thorough review of financial records. This position has primary responsibility for commercial invoicing and billing and must also be familiar with OMB and other grant reporting requirements for proper approval and allocation of expenses and payroll. Responsibilities Key member in the monthly close process. Prepares and imports journal entries with related, appropriate support for review. Ensures entries are completed in accordance with established deadlines. Ensure account reconciliations are prepared in a timely manner Ensure monthly journal entries are prepared in a timely manner Review reconciliations and journal entries monthly Responsible for ensuring the accuracy of balance sheet accounts including prepaids and fixed assets Complete monthly bank reconciliations and work with staff on outstanding items Responsible for the billing of all exchange contracts including revenue recognition Cross trains with other finance/accounting positions to assist, as needed, including payroll and accounts payable. May verify or coordinate work output of other staff. Assist with the preparation for audits and registration and ensure appropriate documentation of policies and procedures. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required. 5+ years of related accounting experience plus additional experience, nonprofit accounting experience preferred Demonstrated theoretical and practical knowledge of accounting concepts, practices and procedures; General ledger and other accounting software for a medium sized corporation, Quickbooks and other software preferred. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and manage competing tasks, deadlines, requirements, and decisions. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. A passion for education, a team mentality, creativity, and a positive "can-do" "yes-and" spirit. Compensation Salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience.
