Development & Administrative Associate
The next Development & Administrative Associate of the Alliance for Youth Action (along with our sister 501c3 organization the Alliance for Youth Organizing) is an exciting opportunity to support fundraising efforts for the nation's leading youth organizing network. Since our inception, our network has led on some of the most innovative and exciting electoral and issue advocacy work across the country. We're looking for an organized and driven individual to support our growing development portfolio. The Development & Administrative Associate will work closely with the Development Manager and Alliance leadership (including the Executive Director and two fantastic boards of directors) on fundraising and administrative efforts, including on grant proposals and reporting, system management, online fundraising, and fundraising events. This person must be highly organized and a strong writer. The incoming Development & Administrative Associate will join a growing development team and help raise national resources so that our network of progressive youth-led organizations are able to throw down and win in 2020 and beyond. This is a full-time position based in our Washington, DC office, reporting to the Development Manager. About the Alliance for Youth Action The Alliance convenes, supports, and scales a national network of youth-led, locally rooted organizations growing civic engagement and social justice coast to coast. We truly are a network "of young people, by young people, for all people." In 2018, our affiliates and partners ran massive voter registration and get-out-the-vote drives, trained new young leaders, and ran powerful campaigns to win on the progressive issues our generation cares about most. Our national team empowers this work by tracking down national resources for the network, building capacity for local groups, seeding new efforts, and coordinating national issue campaigns. And we do it all while snacking on A Baked Joint biscuits and hanging with pups in the office. Job Responsibilities The Development & Administrative Associate will play an integral support role for the organization's growing development work. Key responsibilities of this position include: Grant Writing, Reporting, & Other Communication (40%) Work closely with the Development Manager and key organizational leadership to craft compelling grant proposals, narrative reports, and timely updates for a range of foundations and individual donors. Assist in material development for key organizational documents and external donor communication. Bottom-line email appeals to our growing list of supporters, ensuring we're sending regular updates and telling a compelling funding story. Working with the Development Manager, develop and execute a base-level donor program that includes monthly giving and online fundraising. Fundraising Systems & Database (25%) Maintain, evaluate, and strengthen fundraising systems and processes, including tracking all funder communication, grant tracking, and maintaining a clean and accurate fundraising database. Support and work with the Development Manager and the Alliance's operations team to ensure the organization's revenue tracking is spot on. Administrative Support for Executive Director (15%) Provide support for meeting scheduling and coordinating logistics for meetings. Responsible for managing the Executive Director's preparation for meetings, presentations, and events. Special Projects & Fundraising Events (10%) Lead on logistics and scheduling for regular donor cultivation events across the country in major fundraising hubs like Washington DC, New York City, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. Research, Prospecting, & Outreach (10%) Work with the Development Manager, organization leadership, and the board of directors to continually prospect new funders, including individuals and foundations. Key Qualifications & Experience We're looking for candidates with particular strengths in the following areas: Written Communication & Editing Skills. Strong writer with a proven ability to craft different forms of writing as this role will need to create excellent fundraising documents ranging from grant proposals to email appeals to concise program pitches. Pro-Oxford comma. Planning & Project Management. Highly organized (seriously), detail oriented, and a relentless focus on results. Proven ability to effectively and independently manage projects. This person will be integral in maintaining clean, accurate, easy-to-use systems, so they must be able to manage programs with many moving parts. Understands the importance of goal setting and accountability and follows through 100% of the time. Self-Starter w/ a Positive Attitude. Ability and desire to take on organizational priorities, unexpected projects, and to adapt as responsibilities and circumstances change. Beyond maintaining the fundraising and administrative systems we currently have, the willingness to figure out what other processes could be smoother and create the systems to make staff's work easier. Interpersonal Skills. Strong listening and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships across a diverse range of people. Ability to work without significant administrative support and as part of a team of incredible staff, board, and local affiliate organizations. Champion of Organizational Diversity & Equity. Logistics Compensation: $40,000 - $50,000 per year commensurate with experience.
