Candidates must have a Ph.D. in an engineering or science field, plus after award of the Ph.D., six or more years of successful research, research administration, and/or managerial experience pertinent to the position; OR a Master’s degree in an engineering or science field plus after award of the degree, eight or more years of successful research, research administration, and/or managerial experience pertinent to the position.
Effective oral and written communication skills are also highly desirable. NSF SBIR/STTR seeks to assist companies with early-stage technologies that require additional research and development in order to advance commercialization efforts. The technologies must be highly innovative with strong commercial potential and satisfy a market need.
Specific experience in the commercialization of innovative products in both small business settings and/or in large industrial concerns is preferred. Experience in research that applies scientific principles to solving real world problems while advancing scientific knowledge. The position requires a commitment to high standards of intellectualism and ethical conduct, a considerable breadth of interest, receptivity to new ideas, a strong sense of fairness, good judgment, and a high degree of personal integrity.
This position is outside the competitive civil service.
