It is not often that a role comes along that provides you the opportunity to play a pivotal role in Safety and Health transformation with a leading firm in its industry.Based at our Lorton, VA facility, Covanta is seeking an energetic, dedicated, versatile, self-motivated Safety and Health professional with a solid track record of leading implementation of safety and health programs in an operating environment, specifically plants in the waste-to-energy, electric utility, process or related industries. We are looking for innovative and successful safety and health candidates who are forward-thinking and progressive in their approach to S&H Management Systems. Experience with Leading Indicators highly desired. Reporting to the Facility Manager and working in conjunction with the Regional Safety Administrator, the Safety Coordinator oversees regulatory compliance, accident investigation/ documentation and OSHA VPP efforts. This position is responsible for all aspects of safety training including initial new hire and plant safety training, as well as maintaining all training records. Additionally, he/she will continuously monitor the performance and effectiveness of the plant's health and safety program in the field and make program adjustments as necessary to meet performance and improvement objectives in a safe, productive manner. Additionally, he/she will assist in outage scheduling, planning / scheduling projects, budget planning for both safety and operations.Now to the specifics of the role:Reporting to the Facility Manager and our Regional Safety Manager, the Facility Safety Coordinator (FSC) will have a varying range of responsibilities depending on the size and complexity of the plant, number of employees and projects assigned. The FSC role will span strategic, tactical, and transactional safety and health management activities. As the FSC, you will be responsible for overseeing regulatory compliance, training and implementation of Covanta's safety policies, accident investigation and documentation, OSHA VPP efforts, and management of the other safety program initiatives (and Transfer Station's DOT Driver's Program, where it applies). In addition to managing the Facility Safety Program, the FSC will oversee the employee training program, and assist with the daily execution of the facility safety and health activities (Transfer Station, Public Unloading Facility and Upper Lot Recycle operation, when it applies).The FSC will also be called upon to contribute to the broader facility management team and provide leadership to process improvement and best practice deployment, demonstrating the right values and behaviors with high emotional intelligence in working with disbursed stakeholder base, often on critical schedule projects.Specific Areas of Responsibilities:What you will do:Provide an active leadership role in for the management of the facilities Health and Safety Programs, Processes and Policies.Implement, motivate, educate and enforce Covanta's safety and health policies.Manage all aspects of our safety reporting and maintain the facility Safety records.Continually monitor the performance and effectiveness of the facility safety program and implement adjustments and improvement as needed.Complete weekly safety audits and follow-up reporting.With facility management oversee contractor safety and health performance. Ensuring that contractors are properly trained, use appropriate tools and equipment and protect all employees from injury.When necessary, stop potential unsafe behaviors (PUB) in the field when observed and coach employees on the proper method. Also provide positive recognition for safe behaviors.Demonstrate a personal commitment to safety and health excellence.Manage the Safety Training Program.Manage the Employee Training Program with the Chief Engineer.Manage accident investigations and all related reporting.Manage the Department of Transportation (DOT) Program for Site and Over-the-Road drivers.Contribute to improvements in lean, Six Sigma and other quantitative and qualitative approaches to drive workplace process improvements.
