The School of Agricultural and Natural Sciences (SANS) seeks applicants for the position of 4-H Stem and Youth Development Extension Educator/Associate. This a twelve month, full-time extension position. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.The UMES Extension Program is a component of an integrated cooperative extension program that is coordinated by two land grant universities in the State of Maryland. The position will be stationed on the UMES campus and will work closely with University of Maryland Extension to market, promote, and deliver youth development programs. The primary responsibility for this position is the development, delivery and evaluation of educational programs supporting the mission of University of Maryland Eastern Shore Extension in addition to the mission of the Maryland 4H. Specifically, the 4-H STEM Youth Development Educator will support one of our core extension program areas focusing on 4H STEM and other leadership programs targeting youth.ResponsibilitiesKey responsibilities will include:Development and delivery of objective, research-based educational programs to meet the needs of diverse audiences.Specification of program goals and objectives and identification of resources needed.Provision of leadership for 4-H STEM Youth Development programs that meet the needs of all youth.Recruitment and management of volunteers including provision of necessary training and support for the effective implementation of 4-H STEM education program activities.Determination of unit program needs by monitoring trends and issues, and conducting any relevant assessments.Development of strong networks and coalitions with other agencies, organizations and institutions to address the program's priorities.Coordination of day-to-day activities and events associated with the 4-H STEM program.Extension agents recognize the importance of diversity and inclusion in the development and delivery of extension programs. They actively work to diversify program participation and are responsible for ensuring adherence with civil rights policies and compliance with affirmative action.Required QualificationsMust have a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline from an accredited college or university.Knowledge of child and human development.Knowledge and experience in planning, conducting, and evaluating extension or non-formal education programs.Understanding and ability to conduct community needs assessment to determine program priorities.Excellent oral and written communication skills.Basic knowledge of current educational technologies and their appropriate use in the development and delivery of educational programs.Program marketing skills.Knowledge and willingness to involve and manage volunteers in program development and delivery.Flexibility, adaptability and a team-oriented mindset.Ability to work independently.Demonstrated ability to build and maintain diverse networks.Preferred QualificationsMaster's degree in a relevant field preferred.Required Knowledge, Skills, AbilitiesEvidence of program planning and experience working with diverse youth populations.Strong oral and written communication skills as well as computer skillsEvidence of strong interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team environment as well as independently.Ability to work with and support youth and adults from a diverse range of experiences, cultures, and backgroundsAbility to initiate and complete programs and projects as outlinedMust have access to own vehicle and a valid driver's licenseSupport UMES clientele service values of integrity, commitment, accountability, respect and excellence.Resumes will be accepted until the position is filled.
