Job Announcement

Installs, calibrates and repairs flow meters, level meters and analytical measuring devices, at a large advanced wastewater plant. Troubleshoots and repairs wastewater process control systems. Helps maintain the plant's SCADA and communications systems. Under direction of the Instrumentation Supervisor and Technician III's, performs related duties as required.

Illustrative Duties

  • Installs, maintains and repairs instrumentation and electronic equipment used in a wastewater treatment plant, pumping/flow metering stations, atmospheric testing, or air monitoring devices used on emergency response vehicles;
  • Maintains and ensures all calibration and measuring equipment is clean and functioning properly;
  • Investigates and analyzes equipment failures on multigenerational equipment via monitoring on laptops and visual inspections and corrects any malfunctions;
  • Performs on-going preventive and corrective maintenance on multigenerational equipment;
  • Installs new instrumentation when necessary and monitors via laptop;
  • Maintains records on testing, calibration and repairs of all instruments;
  • May oversee work of Instrument Technician I;
  • Performs work in a safe manner according to all regulations, participates in safety training, and reports unsafe conditions.


Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of electronic theory and of the methods and practices of electronic equipment repair;
  • Knowledge of the functioning and maintenance of process control instrumentation and electronic equipment;
  • Ability to locate and correct defects in electronic and instrumentation devices;
  • Ability to read instrumentation data accurately and to maintain records of maintenance/calibration activities per OSHA mandates;
  • Ability to program, manage and utilize SCADA and related software;
  • Ability to maintain records of maintenance activities;
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and work from circuit diagrams and manufacturer's manuals;
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, circuit diagrams, and manuals;
  • Knowledge of safe work practices as they relate to wastewater Instrumentation work.


Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, or a GED issued by a state department of education; completion of a vocation course in electronics, and three years of work experience related to the installation, maintenance and repair of industrial instrumentation or electronic/electrical equipment found in water or wastewater utilities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Instrumentation Technician experience. Experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical control systems. SCADA and PLC experience. Experience working at a wastewater treatment plant. Instrumentation or Electrical Journeyman license. Certificate or associates degree in related field.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:

Must have and maintain a valid motor vehicle driver's license.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Subject to 24-hour call back and must, therefore, be able to work emergency overtime. The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, driving record check, and pre-employment physical to the satisfaction of the employer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The following physical requirements are with or without reasonable accommodation:
  • Must be able to lift/slide up to 50 pounds;
  • Job requires occasional stooping and extended standing;
  • Must be capable of working in confined spaces.
  • Ability to enter confined spaces with a weight restriction of 310 pounds.
  • Must work from elevated areas such as catwalks, scaffolds and ladders.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop and stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to distinguish different color wiring.
  • Subject to working in adverse weather conditions and may be exposed to raw waste.
