Founded in 1984, LAWS is a 501c3, non-profit organization that has earned an outstanding reputation for delivering safe-haven and a host of essential services to adults and children directly impacted by domestic and sexual violence. LAWS' mission is to serve adults and children who are victims of domestic violence and sexual assault; to empower, inform, and advocate for these individuals; to educate the community about domestic violence and sexual assault; and, to work towards the elimination of personal and societal violence. LAWS' strives to offer a framework of comprehensive support services to victims of domestic and sexual violence so that they may live free from fear, anxiety, and danger. Every year, LAWS' staff of approximately 40 professionals, a committed group of volunteers, and a diverse Board comprised of community and business leaders, work to enhance the lives of the approximately 1,000 adult and child victims of domestic and sexual violence here in Loudoun County. Today, in addition to operating a 24/7, emergency shelter for adult and child victims, LAWS also delivers an array of services to include a 24-hour hotline, counseling, legal resources, support groups, a Child Advocacy Center, and community outreach programming. LAWS seeks a highly talented and capable Director of Development who can design, develop, and implement a comprehensive development & fundraising roadmap that supports the organization's mission and service offerings. Working closely with the Executive Director, the Director of Development will be responsible for creating and executing on LAWS strategic development plan. The development plan will thoughtfully consider various giving channels to include: Corporate and Individual Major Gifts, Planned Giving, Annual Appeal, Special Event Fundraising, Affiliate Fundraising initiatives, and other revenue streams (ie Cause Marketing). This position is based in Leesburg, VA and will oversee development and fundraising activities within the greater Loudoun County area. Additionally, the Director of Development will engage and steward other regional and national funding relationships and opportunities. Responsibilities Reporting to LAWS Executive Director, the Director of Development will build comprehensive fundraising programs focused within Loudoun County, VA. These programs will include individual and corporate giving, special events, online giving, capital campaigns, and planned, annual and major giving. Maintain a portfolio of donor prospects, with a focus on unrestricted major gifts, sponsorships, and grants from individuals, corporations and foundations. Achieve individual and team revenue goal. Work closely with LAWS Development & Fundraising Committee to help coordinate select special event fundraising opportunities. Work with Executive Director, Board members, and other affiliated parties to strategically identify and steward select individual, corporate, and foundation donors, and/or grant makers. Participate in identifying, selecting and implementing a new development database and CRM solution. Maintain accurate and complete records of all activities from budget to relationship management activities. Use a variety of technology platforms to promote development initiatives, manage relationships and steward donors (ie: social media tools, twitter, etc.). Directly handle the creation of marketing communications to donors and stakeholders (to include annual reports, periodic newsletters, and special communications). Directly involved in coordinating and overseeing development related activities for volunteers. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Business, or Marketing or related field Five plus years working in a direct development role within a non-profit entity (preferably one in the human services area). Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to achieve Development goals and objectives. An unparalleled commitment to raising awareness relative to domestic and sexual violence in Loudoun County and in America. Prior participation in strategic planning as relates to organizational fundraising programs. Five plus years of progressive professional experience empowering individuals through fundraising, event participation, volunteerism, and corporate partnerships. Will possess demonstrated ability as a front-line fundraiser. Must have outstanding oral and written communication skills. This individual must be adept presenter and public speaker. Must have the ability to present LAWS' compelling mission in a manner that resonates with different demographic groups. Demonstrated experience engaging and recruiting individuals to support a 501c3 organization. Demonstrated ability to mobilize and motivate individuals to achieve goals. Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for growth in relationships. Natural desire and ability to nurture and sustain long-term relationships. Ability to manage numerous campaigns at one time, and demonstrated ability to adapt and adjust priorities. Must be a self-starter who possesses Initiative and independence. Must be effective at working in a collaborative manner. Must be able to work evenings and weekends as required.
