Financial Resilience Strategy strengthens the financial security of consumers 50+ by helping them remain in the workforce as long as desire. We do so by providing unbiased training, resources, tools and information to help the 50+.

Summary

Assist in developing and managing overarching strategic direction of AARP programs and education competencies to improve key personal or community conditions (e.g., health/financial status of person 50+; or building great community for all ages). Helps develop and manage effective tactical work plans to conduct project research, guide program development, plan strategic communications and create tailored messaging for targeted audiences, with a focus on implementing, monitoring, and evaluating issue campaigns.

Strategic portfolio focus:
• Financial security generally, including Social Security, retirement planning and protection, emergency savings and debt.

Responsibilities

• Exercises leadership when working with staff throughout AARP and with external organizations to ensure that strategic and tactical plans are implemented, as designed. Tracks and reports program outcomes.

• Strategically represents AARP by initiating, building, and maintaining internal and external relationships. Keeps stakeholders informed and involved.

• Regularly collaborates with other AARP departments, relevant influencers, organizations and coalitions to plan, develop, and implement key Programs strategies and tactics to deliver on portfolio outcomes on a national scale.

• Demonstrates and applies an intermediate level of issue expertise (or better) when contributing content expertise in the development of information products for consumer use and use by internal and external groups and organizations.

• Supports subject matter content in the assigned issue area. Works closely with Programs design team on the programmatic offerings needed and supports them on the identification of programmatic tactics, digital tools, social media tactics, and creation of programs for multicultural audiences. Leads, supports, and facilitates shared learning and information with the states and regions.

• Cultivates a strong knowledge base related to assigned campaign or target project, including staying abreast of important research, significant trends, relevant drivers and barriers, external environment factors, appropriate media, public policy developments, and potential new opportunities to promote AARP's messages and programs.

• Analyzes key segments' (with special emphasis paid to multicultural and 50-64 audiences') needs and wants related to strategic issue portfolio (as defined by relevant issue team) to inform program design and metrics. Supports research as needed to inform programmatic messaging, strategy and offerings.

• Supports analysis of programming needs in collaboration with state offices that engage the 50-plus with strategic issue portfolio topics, with emphasis on community aspects of key issue (as defined by relevant issue team).

• Supports business analytics and ongoing data inputs to evaluate program progress against established metrics and standards, working with the Programs design team to recommend mid-course corrections and process improvements as needed.

• Supports strategic external partnerships within the business community, with associations, individuals, and with opinion leaders to further the objectives of the various member educational campaigns.

• Supports planning process for Issue Team working closely with Enterprise Strategy and Innovation partners.

• Executes work to prescribed standards of excellence.

• Demonstrates AARP values in all interactions.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in program or project management, business administration or related field; at least 5 years of relevant experience in positions where coordination, networking, information sharing and/or marketing were central to the job; or a combination of education and experience in areas directly related to the duties of this position. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, demonstrated ability to build, sustain and nurture strong, productive working relationships internally and externally. Subject matter expertise in financial security, particularly with issues and programs to help the 50+ build and protect savings and manage their finances. Knowledge of Social Security and planning and saving for retirement and emergencies.

May require limited travel (approximately 10%)
