Summary

As a paid Research and Evaluation Intern with the AARP Foundation, you will have the opportunity to work on elements of a variety of research and evaluation activities and projects, depending both on the project need and on the intern's interest. This is a paid internship which will allow the intern to work no more than 25 hours per week. The intern will primarily work with the evaluation team and will interact with other Foundation staff to carry out the position responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Conduct data cleaning and data entry.
  • Contribute to data analyses and write-up of findings.
  • Create a framework for the development of manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals and presentations to outside organizations.
  • Contribute to manuscripts and presentations.
  • Research opportunities and requirements for the Foundation to submit abstracts for conference presentations and peer reviewed publications.
  • Develop timelines and project plans for agreed upon abstract and manuscript preparation.
  • Contribute to quality control review of submissions.
  • Conduct literature searches and reviews.
  • Create visual presentations of evaluation processes and results.


Requirements

Interns must be currently enrolled in a degreed graduate program at an accredited college or university.

AARP also considers non-traditional interns who are looking to re-enter the workforce or change careers. This may include those who have previously graduated college and are now enrolled in a continuing education program.
  • Currently pursuing a graduate degree in gerontology, public health, evaluation, social sciences, psychology, or related field.
  • Preference will be given to candidates enrolled in a doctoral program.
  • Knowledge of statistics; experience applying various statistical methods to the evaluation of human services programs is a plus.
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with superior attention to detail.
  • Creative initiative for the design and presentation of evaluation findings. Experience using advanced data visualization techniques is a plus.
  • Knowledge of and experience with quantitative and qualitative research methods.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to ensure effective interactions with individuals at all levels and background.
  • Successful candidate will be dedicated to the Foundation's mission and will have a current understanding of the issues facing low income older adults.
