    BASIC REQUIREMENT:

    Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position

    OR

    Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education

    FOR THE GS-12 LEVEL: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-11 level) that may have been obtained in the private or public (local, county, state, Federal) sectors which demonstrates:
    • Experience reviewing records or similar documentation to identify trends and developing summaries of these findings related to biological and agricultural science
    • Experience defining and documenting standard operating procedures or policies to ensure clear and consistent execution of repetitive regulatory and/or laboratory processes
    • Experience supporting scientists, program leaders, or technical consultants by collecting, managing, and reporting data associated with plant pest identification or agricultural inspection
    • Experience working collaboratively with internal and/or external colleagues to complete joint projects
    • Experience preparing routine reports and delivering presentations
    Note: There is no education substitution for this grade level.

    FOR THE GS-13 LEVEL: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-12 level) that may have been obtained in the private or public (local, county, state, Federal) sectors which demonstrates:
    • Experience conducting reviews, generating findings, and making recommendations based upon analysis of work observations, review of records or similar documentation, research of precedent studies, and application of standards related to entomology, botany, malacology and/or plant pathology
    • Experience inspecting activities for conformance to established standards and compliance with regulatory or program requirements
    • Experience developing procedures and guidelines to supplement established administrative regulations, policies or program guidance related to plant pest identification or agricultural quarantine inspection issues
    • Experience participating in joint agency projects with officials, subject matter specialists, scientists, and persons from Federal, State, or foreign governments to collaborate within multidisciplinary and cross-cultural teams
    • Experience preparing and presenting written documents such as briefings, decision or policy memoranda, or technical guidelines

    TRANSCRIPTS are required if:
    • This position requires specific coursework or a degree in a specific field to be basically qualified.
    • This education must have been successfully completed and obtained from an accredited school, college, or university.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
