George Mason University (Mason) seeks an energetic, innovative and collaborative Executive Director who will be responsible for advancing and creating strategies for life-long learning at Mason, to include the significant scaling of online undergraduate programs and the development of university-wide micro-credentials that help advance career readiness and the advancement potential for working professionals. As a leader within the Academic Innovation and New Ventures Unit, this position will require experience with digital learning methodologies, technology, operations effectiveness and a strong focus on the learning experience to large scale education innovations, including online programs and educational opportunities for working adults. The position will oversee the Office of Distance Learning, including the instructional design staff and work in partnership with the Stearns Center for Teaching and Learning. The Executive Director of Online Operations will report to the Vice President for Academic Innovation and New Ventures and will be a key member of the Academic Innovation and New Ventures leadership team that will help achieve the university's vision of innovation, growth and access.

Academic Innovation and New Ventures leads George Mason University in the establishment of partnerships and programs that expand student access and ensure a skilled and diversified workforce for the Northern Virginia region. Charged with exploring, launching and sustaining university-wide initiatives, New Ventures collaborates with faculty and staff across the community to create innovative academic pathways and services for Mason's diverse student population, including adult learners, part-time, military and first generation students.

This includes a significant increase in online programming and the delivery of micro credentials and other forms of online education and professional development.

Responsibilities: The Executive Director is responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders within the university, including academic units, deans and faculty across the institution, enrollment management, academic administration, professional and continuing education, information technology services and supporting functional areas. This position will design and build innovative programs and products, in partnership with the Academic Innovation and New Ventures team, academic units and faculty, the Office of Professional Education, and various employers.

The Executive Director will support the Vice President for Academic Innovation and New Ventures and work in partnership with the Executive Director of Academic Innovation and New Ventures to develop, lead, and manage office goals and objectives. This position will facilitate a single Mason online brand in the market which includes the curriculum of undergraduate, graduate and programs within professional education. In addition, this position will be responsible for the development and execution of quality and performance metrics for online programming.

The Executive Director will be able to evaluate and communicate the technology needs and requirements to support online programming, develop and execute models for designing quality on-line programming, and develop an internal plan for marketing Mason's online programs.

Required Qualifications: The following are essential duties, responsibilities, and desired characteristics of the person hired as Executive Director: * Master's Degree; * Leadership profile with 10+ years of experience; * Deep knowledge of current technologies that support online learning; * Direct experience managing online programs to scale; * Skills in working at the intersection of labor market needs and university capabilities; * Ability to recruit, supervise, train, and evaluate staff, including learning designers, technologists, media specialists and support staff; * Financial and enrollment forecasting experience; * Experience in working with multiple stakeholders and demonstrated success managing complex projects; and * Evidence of excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications: * Digital and online marketing; and * Vendor management and procurement experience.
