Assistant/Associate Professor of GIScience (Tenure-Track)

The George Mason University, Department of Geography and Geoinformation Science (GGS) in the College of Science invites highly qualified candidates to apply for our GIScience faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. This full-time, tenure-track position is scheduled to begin in August 2019. Responsibilities: We are seeking outstanding candidates with expertise in Geographic Information Science grounded in one of the systematic subfields in human geography, including health geography, economic geography, and transportation geography. Other subfields complementing existing strengths of the Department will also be considered. We especially encourage candidates with expertise in geospatial data analytics and machine learning, spatial simulation and modeling, or geovisualization to apply.

The selected candidate will provide core support to our successful and growing Geography and Geoinformation Science programs; teach core and advanced courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels (the equivalent of two courses per semester); develop new courses as needed in areas of specialization; advise graduate students at both the master's and Ph.D. levels; and develop an externally funded research portfolio that will advance the mission of GGS.

Required Qualifications: * Ph.D. in geography, geoinformatics, or a closely related field is required by time of appointment. * Ability to develop a strong and active research agenda in GIScience and one of the systematic subfields in human geography. * A demonstrated record of publishing peer-reviewed scholarship. * Ability to teach courses in GIScience and a field of specialization. * A demonstrated record of excellence in teaching and potential of seeking/securing external research grants.
