Assistant Professor of Spanish Linguistics

The George Mason University Department of Modern and Classical Languages welcomes applications for a position as a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Spanish Linguistics, beginning Fall 2017. Required Qualifications: Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. in hand at time of appointment, university-level teaching experience, and native or near-native fluency in Spanish. The successful candidate must be able to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in Spanish, including Introduction to Spanish Linguistics and upper-level language courses. Strong commitment to both undergraduate and graduate teaching is essential. The course load is 2-2.

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with an active interdisciplinary research and publication agenda with expertise in two or more of the following areas: ethnography and qualitative methods, discourse analysis, Spanish-language media, translation studies, and corpus linguistics.

Faculty members in the Department of Modern and Classical Languages participate in a variety of interdisciplinary programs on campus, such as Cultural Studies, Film and Media Studies, Global Affairs, the Honors College, Latin American Studies, Linguistics, and Women and Gender Studies. The Spanish program offers a major, a minor and a master's degree. The department also offers a major, a minor, and a master's degree in French; a major and a minor in Arabic (starting next year) and Chinese; minors in Classical Studies and five other languages; and courses in six additional languages.
