Alexandria Residential Treatment Center (ARTC)

An Overview
The Therapist Supervisor is responsible for providing clinical and administrative supervision to Residential Support Counselors in the Alexandria Residential Treatment Center (ARTC). The Therapist Supervisor provides individual and group supervision and reviews documentation for conformance with Department standards. This position provides approximately 30 hours of supervisory/administrative activities and 10 hours of direct clinical care per week. Clinical care activities include: assessments, crisis intervention, and case management as needed. The Therapist Supervisor oversees the implementation of the daily clinical activity schedule. Tasks are performed in accordance with established policies and procedures under the supervision of the Mental Health Team Leader for ARTC.
What You Should Bring
The ideal candidate should have thorough knowledge of individual and group behavior; thorough knowledge of abnormal psychology and psychotherapy techniques used in mental health, intellectual disabilities, and/or substance abuse treatment programs; skill in psychological assessment and diagnosis; ability to apply casework and group work philosophy; ability to interpret properly psychological information and to prepare reports of findings; ability to plan and supervise the work of others; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with mental health clients, relatives of clients and associates.
The Opportunity
  • Provides clinical and administrative supervision to Residential Support Counselors including ongoing review of clinical activities and documentation for conformance with treatment and record keeping standards;
  • Provides direct clinical care to consumers, including: assessments, crisis intervention, and case management;
  • Conducts quality improvement activities including: ongoing review of paper/electronic records, individual and group supervision, training and performance evaluation;
  • Reviews incident reports prepared to identify trends and patterns; makes recommendations to Mental Health Team Leader -- ARTC for policy modifications and staff trainings as needed;
  • Reviews CARF Behavioral Healthcare Standards to help unit develop and maintain CARF standards of care;
  • Participates in program and staff development activities;
  • Assists Team Leader in identifying program and team needs and in implementing new programs or models;
  • Works with Team Leader and RN Supervisor to assure program maintains capacity safely;
  • Works collaboratively with a treatment team including facilitating inter-disciplinary treatment team meetings;
  • Prepares performance evaluations within "ten days before due" guideline;
  • Monitors compliance with Department training for those under supervision;
  • Assists in the hiring/orientation of new staff;
  • Maintains compliance with all Department training requirements;
  • Provides Standby coverage on a rotational basis;
  • Performs other related work as assigned.

The Center for Adult Services (CAS) provides programs and services in Aging; Adult Protective Services; Clinical & Emergency Services; and Community & Residential Support Services for seniors and for persons with mental illness, intellectual disabilities and substance use disorders. CAS provides compassionate and effective person-centered services based on best practices. Our teams support self-determination, safety and recovery for Alexandria residents affected by abuse, neglect, mental illness, intellectual disabilities and substance abuse disorders.

Minimum & Additional Requirements

Master's degree in Human Services; two years post-graduate work experience in providing direct clinical services to clients having psychiatric and/or substance abuse disorders; at least two years post-master's experience providing diagnostic evaluations, assessments, and crisis intervention. Licensed in Virginia as an LCSW, LPC, LSATP, or Clinical Psychologist OR is license eligible (has completed all required education and supervision as required by applicable board) as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner (LSATP), or Clinical Psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia at the time of appointment; if license eligible, the employee must obtain Virginia license at the first available opportunity, but no later than one year after appointment. Good driving record/background check; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

Fluent and bilingual in both English and Spanish. At least two years of direct care experience within the past five years of providing substance abuse treatment, including those with co-occurring disorders in a community, hospital or residential setting. At least one year of experience providing clinical or administrative (in healthcare) supervision. Must have a valid driver's license.

Schedule:
Sunday, Monday and Thursday: 12:00PM - 8:30PM
Tuesday and Wednesday: 10:00AM - 6:30 PM
