The mission of (c) Management, Inc. (CMI), is to provide trusted and dynamic management services for associations, foundations, and non-profits in the healthcare field. The Association of Community Cancer Centers, (c ) Management, Inc.’s largest client, is currently seeking a Policy Coordinator to join its team of professionals.

The Policy Coordinator is an integral member of the Health Policy team and will report to the Senior Health Policy Analyst. S/he will assist in developing and advancing clients’ legislative and regulatory priorities, helps to manage projects for the policy department on a variety of healthcare and oncology-related policy issues, and regularly serves as a liaison to client boards. This position will specifically dedicate time in support of the ACCC policy department to further our clients’ policy agendas (40%), collaboration with Oncology State Societies (OSS) (30%), as well as continued development of ACCC’s value-based care initiatives (30%).

The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist in management of issue-specific projects that are designed to raise clients’ profile with the media, Capitol Hill, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), state legislatures, regulatory bodies, and other agencies. Specifically, this role will see to the continued development of the ACCC Oncology Care Model (OCM) Collaborative with direction from the Senior Policy Analyst.

 

 

  • Monitor and track legislation and regulatory updates related to payment and delivery system reform, health disparities, telemedicine, rural healthcare delivery, clinical trials, care coordination, etc., in relation to health policy issues areas most pertinent to CMI’s clients. Keep the Senior Health Policy Analyst informed and summarize impacts for clients.
  • Collaborate with OSS account executives to meet the policy needs of our state-based clients, including growing their advocacy profiles with elected officials and positioning them as a resource for state policymakers;
  • Maintain an understanding of policy issues applicable to the oncology and/or health care communities by reading trade publications and attending pertinent meetings as requested. 
  • Attend client meetings and collaborate with a variety of other advocacy groups regularly throughout the Washington, DC, metropolitan area to continue to position ACCC as a primary resource on any and all health policy issues related to the oncology delivery landscape.
  • Partner with the marketing/communications team to keep clients updated on legislative issues by maintaining policy sections of client websites, writing blog posts and legislative alerts, and contributing newsletter/magazine policy articles to internal and external publications.
  • Partner with the provider education team to understand the evolving educational landscape in the oncology community and determine appropriate policy action with the Senior Policy Analyst.
  • Work closely with internal meetings staff to identify speakers and develop policy content for meeting agendas.

The Policy Coordinator serves as a resource to the Senior Health Policy Analyst, the Executive Director, and the clients’ Board(s) of Trustees and assists with a variety of projects and activities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required to interact with member health care professionals, congressional offices, state legislatures, other patient and provider advocacy organizations, and industry leaders. Strong organizational skills are required to track multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, produce high-quality materials and ensure that clients and members receive excellent services. The individual in this position must demonstrate an interest in developing their knowledge of the health care environment and possess an ability to handle projects independently when necessary.

The ideal candidate will have 1-3 years’ experience in the healthcare or public health field with an interest in working more thoroughly on both health policy issues from the federal and state level. Knowledge of the legislative and regulatory process is preferred, as well as a strong interest in the evolution of healthcare delivery. S/he should have the following skills:

  • Strong critical thinking/problem solving abilities.
  • High quality written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of both Congressional and state level policy making
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities
  • Strong professional and interpersonal skills to maintain relationships with clients and outside stakeholder organizations
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced, collaborative, team-based environment

Overnight and local travel is an essential function of this position (approximately 20%).
