  • To qualify at the GS-11 Level: applicants must have (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: using databases, analyzing data with statistical software, and presenting data to internal audiences.

    OR You can qualify based on education for the GS-11, if you have completed:

    -Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, in a field that is directly related to the duties of the position, or

    -3 full years of progressively, higher level, directly related graduate education leading to such a degree.

    OR A combination of graduate level education and specialized experience that equals 100% of the requirements for the GS-11 level as outlined above.

    To qualify at the GS-12 level: applicants must have (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: using data analysis tools (sql, python, R, etc) to build and execute data queries against databases with large volumes of data, extract and wrangle large datasets (over 1,000,000 records) and present results to internal audiences.

    At the GS-13 level: Applicants must have (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level using data analysis tools (sql, python, R, etc) to build and execute data queries against databases with large volumes of data, extract and wrangle large datasets (over 1,000,000 records) and present results to internal audiences or external audiences, and a solid understanding of data science fundamentals.





    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
