Maintenance Mechanic Assistant Supervisor, Facilities Management - Main Campus

The Maintenance Mechanic Assistant Supervisor reports directly to the Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor on assigned shift. The position works in close coordination with the Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor in setting the tone for how the department is perceived and serves as a clearinghouse of information for customers, staff and contractors. The incumbent assists in the supervision, planning, scheduling of the work for maintenance mechanics trades personnel on assigned shift. The incumbent can be assigned as the first point of contact on assigned shift or the Emergency Response Coordinator for University Facilities with customers and the command center managed by the Department of Public Safety during all emergencies.

Duties of the Maintenance Mechanic Assistant Supervisor include but are not limited to:
  • Directs and coordinates facilities maintenance and repair operations for University buildings campus-wide.
  • Supervises maintenance mechanic personnel on assigned shift responsible for maintenance and repair of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Also provides trouble shooting, repair, and maintenance services on elevator, fire suppression and alarm systems, hydronic heating, steam generating equipment and electronics systems.
  • Ensures that high priority demand work orders are addressed during the assigned shift.
  • Provides input regarding budget expenditures.
  • Assists with identifying deferred maintenance and planned component replacement.
  • Performs administrative duties; accountable for materials purchased.
  • Keeps informed of contracted work.
  • Complies with safety codes, Building Officials & Code Administrators (BOCA) standards and local building codes
  • Evaluates employees; assures University policies and union contract guidelines are followed; and coordinates with customers.
  • Serves as Assistant Supervisor for Facilities Management during designated shift, and acts as Senior Supervisor in the absence of the Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor.


Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Hold a certification and or license in either, Electrical, Plumbing or HVAC for at least 5 years and has worked in two of the fields for 10 years.
  • Possesses experience leading or supervising a team of mechanics in any of the specialized trades including maintenance mechanics for a period of 3 years.
  • Experience leading a team of mechanics with varying levels of experience on a variety of jobs associated with facility maintenance.
  • License or Certification in either Electrical, Plumbing or HVAC or an Associates of Arts degree or equivalent in facilities management.
  • General experience in the following trades: Plumbing, HVAC and Electrical.
  • Must have a computer literacy with specific experience in Microsoft Office Applications, e mail use, database management, spreadsheets, text messaging and word processing.
  • Familiar with reading building blue prints and equipment plans.
  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills. Must have strong customer service orientation.
