    GS-11 Specialized Experience

    One year of specialized experience that is equivalent to the GS-09 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as:

    (1) Performing visual information assignments involving the communication of information through visual means.
    (2) Utilizing industry standard personal computers to create, manipulate, produce, and present graphics and animated imagery with output to slides, files and hard copy.
    (3) Assisting in planning the physical aspects of visual jobs.
    (4) Attending trade shows, conferences, and demonstration to keep abreast of visual information techniques and systems.

    OR

    A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.

    OR

    Three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree.

    GS-12 Specialized Experience

    One year of specialized experience that is equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as:

    (1) Planning and completing visual information projects, primarily in the form of exhibits, printed publications, and visual presentations, aimed at communicating a wide variety of information.
    (2) Providing advice on technical advantages and disadvantages of various formats, styles, media and methods of reproduction, and types of presentations.
    (3) Researching source material, such as reports, plans, and publications, in order to determine the best presentation of material.
    (4) Applying tools and methods of computer graphics technology to maximize the quality, efficiency, speed, and cost effectiveness of visual information creation, automation, and transfer to viable end products.

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

    Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study - commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. Some positions may also require subject-matter knowledge of medicine, science, or technical equipment.

    This position is eligible for telework.

    To exercise selection priority for this vacancy, CTAP/RPL candidates must meet the basic eligibility requirements and all selective factors. CTAP candidates must be rated and determined to be well qualified (or above) based on an evaluation of the competencies listed in the How You Will Be Evaluated section. When assessed through a score-based category rating method, CTAP applicants must receive a rating of at least 85 out of a possible 100.

    Forest Service daycare facilities may be available.

    Government housing is not available.

Service must be in the competitive service and have been at a successful level of performance or better. Part-time and intermittent service will be credited only for time actually worked. Non-pay status (such as LWOP) is credited for up to six months in a calendar year; anything beyond six months is not credited.
