Specialized Experience: For the GG-13, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes: Experience with Census Bureau products such as TIGERweb and TIGER files for the public; explaining programs and products to non-technical audiences; communicating through emails, memos, letters, and meeting materials to external and internal recipients; preparing and editing documents such as product brochures and user guides; assessing and making recommendations to improve services and products to ensure quality customer service; coordinating conference arrangements, including exhibits; interacting with the public at conference exhibits; designing visuals in PowerPoint for in-person and remote presentations; making presentations to internal and external audiences; planning, developing, and implementing projects independently; monitoring and documenting project progress and performance; leading teams; applying problem solving and analytical skills.
Education at the grade level cannot be substituted for specialized experience.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume, optional cover letter and supporting documentation will be reviewed to determine if you meet the minimum qualifications for the position. If you meet the minimum qualifications stated in the job opportunity announcement, we will compare your resume, optional cover letter and supporting documentation to your responses on the scored occupational questionnaire (True/False, Yes/No, Multiple Choice questions) and place you in one of three pre-defined categories. - Knowledge of geographic programs, terms, concepts, and relationships with a broad understanding of how these apply to the Census Bureau’s surveys and customers.
- Ability to understand complex geographic programs and explain in person and in writing to non-technical external and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to assess and improve customer service and products
- Knowledge of the professional conference environment
- Knowledge of methods for developing schedules, budgets, project plans, and procedures; Ability to monitor project progress and performance; Ability to lead a team to complete multiple concurrent projects on time
