Requirements

The Assistant Director of Academic & Student Affairs provides support services for 450+ McCourt students, provides administrative support for 14+ McCourt student organizations, and coordinates the scheduling of 130+ courses each academic year and summer. S/he supports the McCourt faculty and administration in implementing policies as it relates to student programs/activities and class scheduling and makes recommendations on student-related issues. Under the supervision and direction of the Assistant Dean of Academic & Student Affairs, the Assistant Director has additional duties that include but are not limited to:

Student Affairs
  • Advises all McCourt School student organizations and student leaders (14+), coordinating new student organizations' development, policies, and approval processes.
  • Advises, oversees, and manages finances/budgets for all McCourt Schools student organizations (total budget of $30,000+).
  • Oversees Declining Balance Cards processes and policies for McCourt student organizations.
  • Provides ongoing training to student leaders on leadership, budget, event-planning, and other areas.
  • Supports the Associate Director of Student Affairs with implementing all orientations, commencement ceremonies, and all-McCourt community events (for example, McCourt Policy Challenge, APPAM research conference, and NASPAA simulation).
  • Supervises a new student organization committee and serves as a liaison between student leaders and McCourt administration and faculty, providing recommendations for policies, processes, and services to better support McCourt students.
  • Serves as one of the liaisons for students in crisis or in need of counseling to appropriate University services (Academic Resources Center, Counseling and Psychological Services, Student Health, Graduate School of Arts & Sciences).
  • Serves as an advisor for all disability support services at McCourt and serves as a liaison between students and faculty on matters of disability support.


Academic Affairs
  • Oversees fall, spring, and summer course scheduling (130+ courses) for McCourt faculty in conjunction with the Director of Academic Affairs and Assistant Dean for Academic & Student Affairs.
  • Submits course requests, schedule/classroom changes, course descriptions, and course updates via CourseLeaf or GoogleForms to the Office of the University Registration (OUR).
  • Coordinates cross-listed courses with other academic departments.
  • Updates all materials (such as course descriptions and class schedule grids) to be sent to incoming and returning students.
  • Submits classroom change and technology requests to Classroom Education Technology Services (CETS).
  • Provides administrative support for all faculty, including copying materials and Canvas support.
  • Attends monthly OUR scheduling workgroup meetings, collecting and updating the syllabus database.
  • Assists with student advising for all academic programs and student course registration.


Department Support
  • Coordinates the Student Ambassador Program with Admissions and presents at recruitment and yield events.
  • Attends national/regional graduate school fairs as needed.
  • Supports the Administrative Coordinator with faculty and student organizations' room and space reservations.
  • Supports Academic & Student Affairs team with ongoing projects and new initiatives.
  • Supervises student assistants.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree; Masters preferred
  • Experience working in higher education preferred
