George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.

Over the past few years, the college has annually submitted between 70-95 proposals with an associated value of $30-$50M and has had between $9.1M- $16.7M in sponsored research expenditures per fiscal year. The college currently has a diverse sponsored research funding portfolio that consists of federal, state, corporate and private foundation sponsored awards.

Proposal Submission/Pre-Award Support Responsibilities (75%): The primary responsibility of the Senior Research Administrator is to assist CEHD faculty with all aspects of proposal submission. The range of services includes working with CEHD Principal Investigators to review solicitation requirements while also creating budgets that accurately reflect the effort and resource commitments of each proposal and that will ensure budgeted costs are allowable, appropriate rates are applied, cost share issues are addressed, and all proposal materials are finalized in time to complete the internal review process before final submission to the sponsor. Other priority tasks include providing guidance on project budgets, proposal guidelines and forms, and appropriate internal review procedures, as well as ensuring compliance with applicable sponsor, university, state and federal requirements. The position will also maintain the pre-award database for each proposal and submission and attend pre-award meetings as requested.

Post-Award and Other Support Responsibilities (25%): This position is also expected to assist with post-award project management tasks and to provide senior financial research administrative support services for various grants and contracts housed in Centers, Institutes, Labs and the Dean's Office. Other responsibilities include assisting in the creation of college-wide research administration policies and procedures and the development of division-level training; maintaining up-to-date content on the CEHD Research Administration Services website; and attending post-award meetings as requested.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a related field and/or 2 years of experience working in research or grants administration; demonstrated experience in proposal preparation, development and submission; a strong understanding of proposal submission guidelines and business practices, generally accepted accounting principles and cost accounting standards, federal 2 CFR 200 uniform guidance, and Federal Acquisition Regulations; and the ability to effectively interpret federal, state, university and sponsor-specific guidelines, policies and procedures. The individual must be self-motivated, highly organized, possess strong time management skills in order to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and have the ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task and work independently and in a team setting are essential in this position.

Preferred Qualifications: Formal certification in research administration (Certified Research Administrator, Certified Pre-Award Research Administrator or GMU Research Administrator Certificate).
