Meeting and Event Manager

The School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution is seeking to hire a Meeting and Event Manager, responsible for organizing S-CAR's special events, coordination and consultation of events within the department, including ensuring deadlines and budgets are adhered to as well as supporting standing committee meetings of the academic unit and logistical support. Knowledge and understanding of the field of conflict resolution is desirable. This position is a good fit for someone who needs little supervision, has an ability to work well on teams and with diverse populations, has attention to detail and is seeking an opportunity to be creative in planning and executing signature events. Position Summary: Event Planning duties are as follows: * Plan and coordinate in a collaborative setting annual events and special events including welcome picnic, celebration of achievements, guest lectures and conferences * Event logistics including: room reservations; order and processing catering orders; room setup and take-down; posting events on the website; setup and training others on the technology; creating promotional material; and processing honorariums, travel, catering orders, hotels payment * Support logistics for student and career services events * Supervise part time Event Coordinator * Manage scheduling of S-CAR's three conference rooms, and assist in reservations in other spaces at George Mason * Use of software and scheduling systems * Monitor policies and procedures for event planning Event Communications duties are as follows: * Manage promotion of events including weekly event emails * Utilize social media to promote events via Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, among others * Design fliers, posters and promotions material to assist in marketing and branding the events and the School * Manage Email Marketing platform (Constant Contact), including contact lists and support for other weekly email campaigns Meeting Manager Responsibilities include: * Point of contact for scheduling with the Dean * Support S-CAR Standing Committees: Faculty Board and Advisory Board (monthly) and Executive Committee (bi-weekly). Support duties include agenda collation, room set-up, catering order (faculty board only), and taking minutes. Required Qualifications: * B.A. or equivalent combination of education and experience * Demonstrated experience with project management * Good communication skills * Ability to communicate and work with diverse populations Preferred Qualifications: * Familiarity with conflict resolution topics and themes desired * Experience in higher education administration
