The MIL Corporation seeks an Accountant to support a Federal Government client at our Charleston, South Carolina location. The position will have a primary focus on accounting analysis, general ledger, reconciliations and interpretation of government requirements in support of Property/Asset Accounting systems.

• Accounting transaction analysis, verification of accounting interfaces, identification of accounting errors, researching causes for accounting errors and taking appropriate action, making accounting entries into the automated system, and maintaining memorandum accounting records and spreadsheets to supplement the official accounting records.
• General ledger reconciliations, preparation of financial statements and other data maintenance requirements associated with providing accounting services
• Analysis and interpretation of accounting and asset-related policies, procedures, regulations, and guidance associated with recording and reporting financial assets of the Department.
• Standardization and documentation of asset preparation, reconciliation and reporting activities.
• Routine communications (orally and written) with key stakeholders as well as presenting accounting theory, issues, findings, results, and suggestions in a group dynamic via conference calls.
• Document, report to management and track to closure: system change requests, actionable audit items, etc.
• Work effectively and efficiently within an ISO 9001 Quality Management System certified environment ensuring conformance with work standards and quality

Required Qualifications
• A four year degree from an accredited college or university in the area of financial management or business administration (NOTE - requires a minimum of 24 hours in Accounting - related courses with preference for an Accounting degree or emphasis)
• Minimum of at least two years of relevant work experience is required
• Must be analytically oriented with advanced writing and communication skills
• Great attention to detail
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• General Ledger experience
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel

Desired Qualifications
• Experience in Federal Government or Department of State financial management is highly desired
• Advanced Excel skills
• Excellent reconciliation, research and query skills
• Understands accounting theory
