  • An ideal candidate is a criminal investigator who has worked in a federal Office of Inspector General for at least five years.

    You must have one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in federal service in order to qualify for this position.

    To qualify at the CU-14 level, you must have one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the CU/GS-13 level in federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is defined as experience:
    1. Conducting investigations and obtaining and analyzing information from a variety of sources;
    2. Analyzing and preparing investigative reports in accordance with accepted investigative standards, guidelines, and practices; and
    3. Evaluating investigative policies, strategies, and goals for an agency/organization.

    In addition to meeting the specialized experience, candidates must meet the following requirements:

    Training Requirement:This position requires that you have successfully completed the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center's Criminal Investigator Training Program in Glynco, GA, or comparable basic criminal investigator training such as that conducted by the FBI or DEA. Applicants who are not currently occupying a 1811 Criminal Investigator position must provide certification to verify completion of required training.

    Medical Requirements:The duties of positions in this series require moderate to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms, and exposure to inclement weather. Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of finger, wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip, and knee joints is required. Arms, hands, legs, and feet must be sufficiently intact and functioning in order that applicants may perform the duties satisfactorily. Sufficiently good vision in each eye, with or without correction, is required to perform the duties satisfactorily. Near vision, corrective lenses permitted, must be sufficient to read printed material the size of typewritten characters. Hearing loss, as measured by an audiometer, must not exceed 35 decibels at 1000, 2000, and 3000 Hz levels. Since the duties of these positions are exacting and responsible, and involve activities under trying conditions, applicants must possess emotional and mental stability. Any physical condition that would cause the applicant to be a hazard to himself/herself, or others is disqualifying. If selected, applicants will be required to provide certification/documentation or undergo a pre-employment physical exam to meet the medical requirement.

    Pay will be set within the advertised pay range to align with the selectee's skills and experience and the requirements of the position.

    SALARY: Pay will be set using NCUA's compensation policy. The salary range shown is NCUA's Local Pay Rate (LPR) which includes a locality rate of 42.87% for the Alexandria, Virginia geographical area.
