Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Medicine, Nursing, or related field required.

  • 0 to 6 months of related job experience required.

  • Jurisdiction of Practice, DC license and ability to obtain Maryland and Virginia required.


  • Biology: Knowledge of plant and animal organisms, their tissues, cells, functions, interdependencies, and interactions with each other and the environment.
  • Sociology and Anthropology: Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics, societal trends and influences, human migrations, ethnicity, cultures and their history and origins.
  • Therapy and Counseling: Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions, and for career counseling and guidance.
  • Chemistry: Knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of chemical processes and transformations, including uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods.
  • Education and Training: Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
  • Mathematics: Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, and statistics, and their applications.

  • Master's Degree in Medicine, Nursing, or related field required.

  • 1 to 3 years of related job experience preferred.

  • Certification for drug and alcohol collection

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority's (WMATA) Occupational Health and Wellness Department is seeking a Physician Assistant with Occupational Medicine experience . This role is a critical part of daily operations, to include, conducting medical evaluations, patient care and services, and ensuring WMATA OHAW compliances are adhered to. Successful candidates will have high level medical, organizational and administrative skills, exceptional oral and written communication skills, independent judgement, and the ability to manage multiple medical projects simultaneously.

Progressively responsible managerial experience with occupational medicine. Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR) Systems is preferred .

The Physician's Assistant is responsible for providing medical care and services under the guidance of a physician. Other responsibilities include conducting physical examinations, ordering and review of laboratory studies, and documenting patient medical data.

  • Conducts medical evaluations, such as return-to-duty, DOT examinations, pre-employment, pre-placement, periodic occupational examinations and other medical evaluations.
  • Documents and presents patient history and physical examination to supervising physician.
  • Examines patients to obtain information needed to determine fitness for duty by assessment of medical history and physical conditions.
  • Refers patients to primary care physicians, clinics, and other healthcare providers and facilities as appropriate.
