Job Description: Works independently and provides direction to lower level mechanics. Repairs a variety of heavy equipment and tactical and commercial vehicles. Maintains, repairs, rebuilds a variety of engines, brake systems, drive trains, suspension systems and electrical systems. Provides support in testing and maintenance of developmental and fielded items to include tracked vehicles, heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, forklifts, fixed and mobile equipment, both tactical and commercial. Duties require application of extensive practical knowledge of various equipment areas such as mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Operates and maintains all forms of automotive and support type equipment using a wide range of mechanical concepts and principles. Troubleshoots and diagnoses faults by using the proper diagnostic equipment. Interprets wiring schematics and hydraulic flow charts. Documents repairs needed, recommends/ researches repair parts, and completes required paperwork. Repairs and services automotive air conditioning systems used with automotive and support equipment. Must possess or be capable of obtaining a Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling Certification (must be able within 1 year of start date) 3 yrs. applicable experience; or completion of formal training and 2 yrs. applicable experience. Essential Functions Form: UNUSUAL OR SPECIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION Analyzes malfunctions and repairs, rebuilds, and maintains power equipment. Work requires the ability to constantly be on feet. The ability to bend/stoop, reach above shoulder level, kneel, and push/pull is required (up to 100%). The ability to squat, crouch, and climb into or under a vehicle is required (up to 75%). The ability to crawl and balance is also required (up to 50%). Walking a minimum of 50 yards over rough terrain is required (up to 25%). Must be able to lift and carry up to 50% (up to 100%). DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT Work environment may be inside or outside depending on the task. The ability to work in outside field conditions that include hot and cold extreme temperatures, and other outdoor climatic conditions (up to 25%). Must be able to work in areas where only portable restroom facilities are available (up to 25%). Work environment may be fast-paced and require work under pressure to meet deadlines associated with the completion of a task. Position will require multiple task efforts. May lift heavy parts and tools, handle greasy and dirty parts, and stand or lie in awkward positions to repair vehicles and equipment. Work assignments are received in the form of general oral or written work orders, but the employee is expected to determine the nature and extent of needed repairs. Work may require being assigned to shift work (up to 20%). EQUIPMENT AND MACHINES INVOLVED IN WORK TASKS Good working knowledge of shop equipment such as, but not limited to, hoists, air conditioning recovery and charging equipment, tire changing machine, tire balancer, electrical test equipment, and diagnostic equipment. Must maintain equipment in a clean and functional state at all times. Services or replaces components in heavy equipment systems, such as brakes, electrical components, cooling, fuel, hydraulic systems, final drives, armor add-on packages, and transmissions. Troubleshoots, diagnoses, repairs, overhauls, and tests brake, steering, suspension, heating and cooling systems, gas and diesel internal combustion engines, transmissions, and axle assemblies. Loads, unloads, and transports heavy trucks and equipment in order to perform maintenance and repair work. Performs preventative maintenance on light to heavy trucks and equipment including changing oil filters and checking all fluids. Maintains all repair records, including parts, fluids, labor, repair work, and mileage. Performs clean-up at end of day or when job is completed, including cleaning tools, putting tools in proper storage areas, and sweeping floors. CRITICALITY OF ATTENDANCE Attendance is critical at all times during normal duty hours. Work outside of normal duty hours, including weekends and holidays, may be required with as little as one-hour advance notice. OTHER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Must be able to communicate effectively. Must be able to obtain an interim secret security clearance in order to gain access to required areas, networks and systems within thirty (30) days of date of your offer letter. Must further be able to obtain and retain a secret security clearance. Must be able to provide proof of US citizenship. Must be able to obtain and retain unescorted access to work areas. Must possess or be able to possess a valid Class A CDL. May be subject to other physicals or exams if required to wear a respirator or are designated by the COR to have other physicals due to the work area in which you are assigned. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment as required. Must have a valid drivers license and personal transportation for the purpose of moving around on the proving ground to accomplish job functions and in order to operate a rental vehicle if and when travel is required.
