Summary: Under the supervision of the Park Heights Senior Building Director, the Aquatics Director Directs and supervises Aquatics Department staff and activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill the JCC's overall objectives. This individual will maintain a positive image of the JCC, and create an environment that members and staff look forward to participating in. Responsibilities: Oversee the development and management of all aspects of the Park Heights JCC Aquatics Department to ensure it meets the needs of the members and the community while achieving operating objectives. Work with supervisor to understand and implement the vision and strategic plan for growth of the Aquatics programs. Meet regularly with supervisor to review and continually reassess strategic and tactical goals. Ensure the safety of members in the pool and pool area by enforcing policies and procedures courteously and professionally. Develop and manage an effective pool schedule and staffing of such that maximizes pool utilization for efficiency, program quality, meeting the needs of the members, safety and licensing requirements. Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive array of programs and completive swimming that is consistent with the mission of the JCC and meets our member's needs. Make recommendations for new and innovative programs. Monitors daily pool operations to ensure that that the State of Maryland and Baltimore City Department of Health Codes, Operating Standards, and regulations are maintained at all times. Responsible for ensuring proper reporting to all agencies of accountability. Oversee the operation of the pool, management of the chemicals, filtration and heating systems, and annual shutdowns and cleanings. Recruits, hires, trains, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff, develop skills and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and compliant. Conducts staff in-service safety training, safety inspections and policy compliance frequently. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information. Assists, or ensures staffing, for program registration events. Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives. Demonstrates a solid administration of the department through prudent fiscal management, and frequent risk assessment, projections and management. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely and courteous manner constantly applying the JCC core values. Qualifications: Current authorization as an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Trainer is highly preferred. Current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguarding is required. Current Certification in American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer (including BLS or another equivalent) is required. Current certification in American Red Cross First Aid is required. Licensure from Baltimore City as a Certified Pool Operator is required (can be obtained). In addition to the above certification requirements, the following management skills are required: Demonstrated ability to train staff and maintain in-service training programs. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with groups served by JCC Aquatics programs, including children, the elderly, and people with chronic physical/mental/emotional disabilities. Strong interpersonal leadership, motivation, and teaching skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. Demonstrated ability to develop and market training and educational programs Demonstrated understanding of issues related to single gender swim offerings. Demonstrated understanding of the Orthodox Jewish Community Two years related coordinator or supervisory experience preferred. Two years previous experience supervising staff. Job requires ability to lift, move quickly; sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities. Computer Proficient. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Participate in agency training, staff meetings, supervisory conferences, committees and special events. Represent the JCC on appropriate staff committees and at interagency and professional conferences as required. Perform other duties as assigned. work enviroNment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts, pool mechanical systems. The employee constantly is exposed to wet and dry conditions as well as hot and humid conditions, and air quality within indoor pools may be reduced due to increased levels of chloramines and ammonia compounds produced from the disinfection of pool water. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud when in the facility. physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to lift, move quickly, sit and stand for long periods and warm and humid temperatures. Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities is required. Specific vision abilities of this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
