SPX Chief Scientist, Tactical Space Reston Virginia BAE Systems Full time Job Description FAST Labs, the research arm of BAE System?s Electronic Systems, is searching for a Chief Scientist II to help drive the technical direction for new research in the Sensor Processing and Exploitation (SPX) Product Line in the area of Tactical Space. The SPX Chief Scientist, Tactical Space coordinates with Chief scientists within SPX as well as those in other FAST Labs product lines: Sensor Technologies (ST), Autonomy, Control, & Estimation Technologies (ACE), and Cyber Technologies (CT), RF EW and Advanced Electronics Technologies (R2E). Chief Scientists own a technical portion of a product line?s strategic plan and plans, captures, and executes sponsored research programs and guides disruptive technologies into BAE System?s Business Areas? products and services. Chief Scientist?s enable capture and execution of a technical thrust by being a trusted advisor to our customers and mentoring and working through senior researchers. The ideal candidate would have a senior level research position in either the US Government or industry with a network of colleagues in the science and technology community. This network would span across the DoD, IC, and academia and include interactions at operational, strategic, and policy levels. Intimate knowledge of DoD and IC missions and their objectives is an essential dimension for this position. This position is located in Reston, VA.Typical Education & Experience Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 12 years work experience or equivalent experienceRequired Skills and Education Desired technical leadership experience and interests include, but is not limited to four or more following technical areas: * Perform detailed analyses to develop and verify mission requirements for spacecraft and ground system elements to include spacecraft subsystem design, ground software design, trajectory and constellation optimization, and operational support for commercial and government space programs. * Technical Lead for a prototype state-of-the-art fusion engine enabling real-time Space Situational Awareness (RT-SSA). * Lead Mission/Flight Dynamics Engineer * Telemetry and metric data analyses to verify critical on-orbit mission performance requirements. * Advanced Mission design and Orbit Analysis for both Satellite Control and Space Situational Awareness * Comprehensive understanding of space surveillance, satellite control, and mission analysis software systems * Certified user of Satellite Toolkit (STK) and other orbital modeling and simulation software.
