The candidate will work on sophisticated patent prosecution and technical analysis work relating to computer hardware, computer software, telecommunications, electrical, electromechanical, and automotive technologies. Will work on drafting, filing, and prosecuting US patent applications, managing and coordinating international patent application strategies, preparing patentability, non-infringement, and invalidity opinions, and overall intellectual property counseling. Must be admitted to a US State Bar and be in good standing and/or be registered to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office. Admission to the Virginia Bar is expected. Should possess an undergraduate degree or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or similar background. Experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications is also required. Experience in drafting patent ability, non-infringement, and invalidity opinions, as well as general client counseling in Intellectual Property issues, is considered a plus. Experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications is essential. Industry, court clerk, and/or PTO examiner experience is desirable. The candidate must have a JD degree. Excellent communication (written and oral) and judgment are essential. Must be a self-starter, have the ability to prioritize workload; display good judgment and work well under pressure. This practice is one of the most pervasive across the country and internationally. And, unlike many other international firms, the foreign offices of this firm are thriving, vibrant components, not merely a two or three attorney outpost. The DC office, in particular, is a cornerstone of the firm's global success. Many of the firm's international clients come to Washington DC's lawyers for regulatory, lobbying and competition work. You'll find attorneys here with a knack for understanding international business markets who are ready to help clients do business abroad. Language abilities and a desire to reach into remote areas of the world carry the day among lawyers here. While the size of this firm would seem to make it an inherently impersonal and cold environment, the smaller practice areas create their own mini-firms which help mentor and support associates as they develop.
