  • Basic Education Requirement:

    For the GS-1550 Computer Science Series:
    Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.

    For the GS-854 and GS-855 Professional Engineering Series:
    Degree: professional engineering. To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

    Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following :
    Professional registration
    Written Test Specified academic courses
    Related curriculum - With this criteria, applicants also need verification of employment from a supervisor stating you have performed professional engineering duties.     Specialized Experience:

    For the GS-13, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable in difficulty and responsibility to GS-12 if outside the Federal service.

    Specialized experience is defined as experience conducting and overseeing engineering activities related to the design, development, installation and analysis of IT systems and systems interface components and experience testing and evaluating new information systems and version releases.

    Candidates must describe how their experience meets the specialized experience requirement within the body of their resume.

    • This is a Critical Acquisition Position (CAP). Selectee must be a member of the DoD Acquisition Corps or eligible for Acquisition Corps membership at the time of the appointment in accordance with the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) and DoD 5000.66.
    • This is a DISA acquisition workforce DAWIA position in the Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics (AT&L) Workforcecareer field. Selectee must be level III certified (or eligible for certification within 24 months of appointment) in the Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics (AT&L) Workforce career field.
    • Selectee must execute, as a condition of appointment, a written agreement to remain in the Federal service in this position for at least 3 years. In signing such agreement, the employee does not forfeit any employment rights, nor does such agreement alter any other terms or conditions of employment.
    • DAWIA certification is a condition of employment. Failure to fulfill the certification requirement may lead to a non-disciplinary adverse action, which can include dismissal.
