    Minimum Qualifications Requirement:

    GS-14: Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the federal government. This experience includes activities such as: conducting complex investigations that are primarily criminal in nature; effecting search warrants, coordinating investigative activities with senior investigators; preparing investigative reports; leading a team of investigative staff in evaluating findings, trends, and patterns in audits, reports, and reviews.

    Conditions of Employment:
    • Selected applicants must undergo and successfully obtain and maintain a background investigation for a Top Secret clearance. You must meet initial and periodic suitability determinations based on favorable background investigations and updates.
    • Selected applicants are subject to initial and random drug testing. Failure to pass a Drug Test or maintain a clearance is grounds for removal.
    • Significant travel is expected. Selected applicants must be able to acquire and maintain a government-issued travel charge card.
    • Selectees must complete a one year probationary or trial period unless already completed or excepted by special authority.
    • Acknowledgement of Career Mobility is a condition of employment. You must be available for permanent reassignment to other regional or resident offices, as required by the OIG.
    • You must pass initial and periodic medical examinations. Failure to meet medical requirements may result in reassignment from the position of criminal investigator or other appropriate action.
    • You must be able to operate a government-owned or leased vehicle and have and maintain a valid driver's license.
    • You will be required to complete an OGE-450, Confidential Statement of Employment and Financial Interests.
    • Completion of the Basic Criminal Investigative Training Program at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, Georgia, or its equivalent.
    • This position is a primary law enforcement position under 5 U.S.C. 8336 (C) (CSRS and 5 U.S. C 8412 (d) (FERS). You must be no more than 37 years of age upon entry into the GS-1811 series, unless the applicant has previous service creditable under the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) or Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) law enforcement provisions sufficient to enable you to retire at age 57 with 20 years of creditable service. Persons already in covered secondary positions or persons with previous approved service who apply for a primary position cannot be considered if their age at reentry into the primary position exceeds 37 years after subtracting their years of service in covered positions. Applicant must provide evidence of current or previous coverage that would qualify. This age restriction does not apply to those entitled to Veteran’s Preference.
    • You will be required to qualify to carry and use firearms and other weapons as part of assigned duties and maintain such qualification. Because of an amendment to 18 U.S.C. 922(g)(9), which became effective on September 30, 1986, applicants are ineligible for this position if at any time, they have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, unless such conviction was expunged, set aside or the applicant received a pardon. For all positions requiring access to firearms or ammunition: The Federal government is prohibited from employing individuals in these positions who have ever been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, or a felony crime of domestic violence adjudged on or after 27 November 2002.
    • Selectees for such positions must meet the initial agency suitability determination (i.e. local police checks, review of past employment data, review of Query National information Center report, results of special agency check, etc.) before a final job offer can be made.

    You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

    Applicants will be evaluated based on their possession of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

    1. Knowledge and experience in criminal, civil and administrative investigative processes and techniques and modern detection methods and equipment. Applicant needs to demonstrate particular knowledge of economic crimes investigations, and methods and techniques of fraud detection and prevention.
    2. Knowledge of Federal Criminal Code, the Federal Rules of Procedure and Evidence to conduct fact-finding and preliminary analysis to identify issues involved and evidence needed.
    3. Ability to obtain and secure evidence in accordance with jurisdictional guidelines to affect arrests, issue search warrants and to explain routine procedures.
    4. Ability to work independently and in a team environment to plan and conduct investigations in collaboration with other government agency counterparts.
    5. Ability to present sensitive and controversial findings and recommendations to supervisor and senior management.
    6. Skill in writing a wide variety of reports, information papers, briefing materials, studies, briefings, and other documents to provide advice, technical expertise, and recommendations.
