Assistant Director, GEI Education - Georgetown Environment Initiative

Georgetown's Environment Initiative is a multi-campus effort to advance the interdisciplinary study of the environment in relation to society, scientific understanding, sound policy, and the broad and complex challenges we face as stewards of the planet's natural resources. The Environment Initiative is both a theme in the current For Generations to Come campaign as well as an effort to plan and set priorities. The goal is to reinforce foundations and to set directions for Georgetown's future scholarship and education efforts in environment and sustainability.

The Assistant Director, GEI Education will primarily develop and support graduate student training in the field of the Environment, including designing, launching, and managing new Master's and Ph.D. degree programs. Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Launch and manage in close collaboration with campus partners a new Master's degree program in the Environment.
  • Launch and manage in close collaboration with campus partners a new interdisciplinary Ph.D. degree program in the Environment.
  • Develop budgets, set revenue projections, track actuals, reconcile budgets, and complete financial reporting for degree programs.
  • Organize and implement admissions events, new student orientation, marketing efforts and other degree program events.
  • Develop in close collaboration with campus partners the proposal for a new Master's degree program in the Environment.
  • Develop in close collaboration with campus partners the proposal for a new interdisciplinary Ph.D. degree program in the Environment.
  • Other assignments as requested by the Director of the Georgetown Environment Initiative as part of the GEI team.


Qualifications
  • Master's degree and 3-5 years of administrative experience successfully managing programs in a University setting required. Academic background and experience in the environmental area required.
  • Extremely strong interpersonal abilities and team orientation
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Willingness to work hands-on developing and executing a variety of activities ranging from the routine to the highly creative and visible
  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, and strong problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated entrepreneurial success and ability to conceptualize an academic degree program
  • Knowledge and understanding of governmental and foundation funding opportunities for graduate student fellowships, and proven ability to identify and secure funding for graduate student fellowships
  • Demonstrated ability to work with various constituencies including prospective students, current students, alumni, collaborators, faculty, and staff
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically in the delivery of programs and services


Preferred Qualification:
  • PhD
