Dewberry, in partnership with Virginia Sea Grant (VASG), is pleased to announce a paid summer fellowship focused on coastal resiliency in our Fairfax, VA office. The fellowship is aimed at training exceptional students to become leaders in in the field of pre- and post-disaster flood resilience. The selected fellow will engage in an applied research project in the field, and focus on areas such as risk recognition, policy and/or engineering solutions and design parameters, and stakeholder communication to address short- and long-term resilience needs. The fellow will be partnered with a Dewberry professional mentor relevant to their area of study and will be actively involved with multi-disciplinary teams working on ongoing projects across the nation . Throughout the fellowship, they will be afforded the opportunity to partner with local programs and academic institutions, and participate in resilience events with VASG and other members of the coastal Virginia resilience and adaptation community.

Required Skills & Required Experience

The fellowship is open to full-time graduate students who have research experience or training in areas including, but not limited to: coastal sciences and engineering, civil and water resources engineering, policy, communication, and/or data analytics. The selected fellow will work alongside senior professionals at Dewberry's Fairfax, Virginia office. W omen, members of underrepresented minority groups, persons with disabilities, and veterans who are currently enrolled at a Virginia institution are strongly encouraged to apply.

  • Pursuing a BS or MS degree with an emphasis in water resources, environmental, coastal, ocean, or marine engineering or science.
  • Understanding of coastal engineering or science technologies, analyses, models.
  • Knowledge of ArcGIS, AutoCAD, or Microstation is preferred.
  • Candidates must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment is a must
