American University’s School of Public Affairs is currently seeking qualified individuals residing in the DMV area to teach and enrich online graduate courses in multiple subjects in its MA of Public Administration and Policy and its MS in Counter-Terrorism and Homeland Security programs. These subjects include quantitative methods, program evaluation, public financial management, principles of intelligence analysis, and cybersecurity issues. The programs consist of three-credit online courses that are eight weeks long and are taught asynchronously in an advanced online learning management system.

Online adjunct faculty are required to engage with students multiple times per week throughout the eight-week instructional terms, applying their subject matter expertise and professional experience to enhance and deepen student understanding of course content through direct applications to the workplace. Additionally, these faculty members are required to assess student work in a timely manner and provide feedback regularly.

The ideal candidate holds a doctoral degree and has professional experience in the relevant area of expertise. A Master’s degree and extensive relevant professional experience may also be acceptable. Online teaching experience at the graduate level is preferred though not required. Course assignments will be contingent on student demand and course schedules. If hired, adjunct faculty are limited to teaching no more than three online courses per semester, up to a maximum of six online courses per year.

Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the positions are filled, subject to ongoing budgetary approval. Please submit applications via:  http://apply.interfolio.com/61972. Please include a cover letter indicating preferred areas of instruction and experience with using relevant technology and/or online learning management systems as a student and/or instructor, curriculum vitae, the name and contact information for three professional references, and any prior teaching evaluations. If you have any questions, please email spa_academicaffairs@american.edu.
