Senior Economist As the Senior Economist at the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE), you will shape our research and policy agenda for economic issues in the energy efficiency sector, attracting and inspiring a small team of researchers. Our reputation is based on the high quality, credibility, and relevance of our work, as well as our bipartisan approach. We will encourage you to maintain a reputation in academic circles, publish in peer-reviewed journals, speak at academic conferences, and/or pursue an adjunct appointment at a local university, if these are of interest to you. ACEEE has had an economics program for about 25 years. The program conducts research and provides an economic perspective on the work of other ACEEE research programs. The core of our economics work has been macroeconomic analysis on the impacts of specific energy efficiency policies and programs on jobs and other macroeconomic metrics. The program has also been involved in economic development, energy efficiency finance, corporate sustainability, and behavior. Through a combination of research and outreach, you will serve as the organization's leading voice on economic issues. You will work closely with ACEEE's executive team and other ACEEE programs to ensure high-quality research that advances ACEEE's mission. Working here, you will have the intellectual freedom to pursue topics of interest to you, have access to data and decision makers, and have an impact on policy. Our work is fast-moving; we are nimble and you will have the ability to work at the federal, state, and local levels to provide tangible input and to undertake a robust research agenda. Organization Overview A national nonprofit research organization based in Washington, DC, ACEEE believes that the United States can harness the full potential of energy efficiency to boost economic prosperity, improve health, and protect the environment for all its people. ACEEE is America's leading center of expertise on energy efficiency. We actively participate in debates on energy policy, clean air, and climate change, and are nationally recognized for leadership in energizing energy efficiency policies for buildings, industry, transportation, appliance and equipment efficiency, and agriculture and rural communities. Our research and analysis are widely relied on by policymakers, business and industry decision makers, consumers, media, and other energy professionals. We contributed provisions to all major federal energy legislation since the 1980s, provided guidance and support to federal agencies and presidential administrations, and engaged on energy efficiency policies and programs in over three dozen states and numerous cities. Our research and partnerships have also helped launch over a dozen other organizations and campaigns. Responsibilities of the Senior Economist Develop, articulate, and implement a vision and work plan for the ACEEE Economics Program. Conduct research on economic and energy efficiency topics with a focus on analysis that defines and quantifies the macroeconomic benefits of energy efficiency. Lead outreach and technical assistance to policymakers and program implementers on economic issues relating to energy efficiency programs and policies. Represent ACEEE in external discussions and debates on economic and policy issues, eg, through speaking roles, conferences, roundtable discussions, testimony, and written commentary. Provide rapid response to assertions about the economics of energy efficiency investments. Build, develop, and cultivate relationships with key partners. Further ACEEE's reputation as an important, credible, and authoritative voice in setting standards for economic research in the efficiency field. Serve as a research advisor on ACEEE research projects, offering guidance and support. Supervise Economics Program team members, coaching staff in their research and career development, and meeting program goals and schedules. Educate ACEEE staff on economic issues. Fundraise in support of the research agenda and work of the Economics Program, in close coordination with the director of development and the executive team. Provide high-quality program administration, including budget and schedule management. Qualifications of the Senior Economist Advanced degree in economics (PhD preferred). At least five years of working experience in the economics field. Experience conducting economics research on programs and policies; experience with energy efficiency programs and policies preferred. Strong writing, quantitative analysis, and communications skills. Superb organization and project management skills. Familiarity with input-output analysis is a plus. Demonstrated leadership, coaching, fundraising, and relationship management experience and strong demonstrated success in managing key external relationships. Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.
