Job Details
Works as part of the Zoning Evaluation Division. Prepares analysis and staff recommendations on rezoning, special exception, special permit and/or variance applications, including interpretation of data relating to land use, transportation, public facilities, and environmental planning. Prepares and presents detailed staff reports on findings and recommendations to the Planning Commission, Board of Supervisors, Board of Zoning Appeals, citizen groups and county agencies. Evaluates requests for proffer/development condition interpretations and responds to other requests for information. Performs other duties as assigned. Position is located within a rezoning/special exception branch of the division.
Employment Standards
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in a planning-related field; plus three years of experience in a planning-related field. A master's degree may be substituted for one year of the required experience. The years of experience should include a minimum of two years of experience in the specific area of assignment, e.g., zoning evaluation, zoning administration, zoning enforcement, public facility, environmental and/or land use planning.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Strong abilities in written and oral communications. Professional experience in the planning, zoning and site plan review fields. Experience using a personal computer, Microsoft Office Suite applications, and Geographic Information Systems applications. Master's degree in planning or a closely-related field and AICP Membership.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The following physical requirements are with or without reasonable accommodations. Position is primarily sedentary. However, employee may be required to do some walking, standing, bending and carrying of items under 15 pounds in weight. Manual dexterity required.
