Job Announcement

Supervises the tasks performed by and participates in the work of a staff responsible for the maintenance of a golf course and associated park grounds, structures and equipment. Implements the preventive maintenance program for all golf course and park equipment. Maintains parts inventory and procures supplies. Programs and maintains the automated irrigation system. Conduct both corrective and preventive repairs to the system. Operates all golf course/park maintenance equipment. Participates in mowing, fertilizing, seeding, course renovations and pest control activities. Installs and maintains annual and perennial plantings. Conducts daily inspections of turf conditions, and reports problems to supervisor and makes recommendations for corrective actions. Recruits, hires and directs the work of golf course maintenance staff. Assists in the development of a comprehensive safety program. Under the direction of the golf course superintendent.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of recreation center and /or park management;
  • Knowledge of fiscal record keeping and inventory procedures;
  • Knowledge of aquatics, grounds maintenance, horticulture, agriculture, cultural or historic resources, or other specialized area as appropriate for the duties of the position;
  • Ability to use a personal computer, applicable software and peripheral equipment;
  • Ability to direct and coordinate the work of subordinate staff and volunteers;
  • Ability to plan, develop, and administer recreation programs or community activities;
  • Ability to maintain effective relationships with employees and citizen groups;
  • Ability to prepare a variety of administrative reports;
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.


Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to graduation from an accredited two-year college or university with an associate degree in recreation, park management, therapeutic recreation, or a closely related field; plus two years of related experience in recreation center, park, athletic field, golf course operations, or community-based program coordination or a related field, as applicable to the position.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
  • Motor vehicle operator's license;
  • Pesticide Applicator C license (within 6 months of appointment);
  • Fertilizer Applicator C License (within 6 months of appointment).
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a check of the Child Protective Services Registry, a driver's license check to the satisfaction of the employer, and a pre-employment physical examination to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
At least two years of golf course maintenance experience. At least two years in a supervisory position. Experience managing turf grass in the transition zone. Experience in diagnosing and repairing mowing equipment or other small motor equipment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to lift 50 pounds. Ability to climb on and off various motorized equipment. Dexterity to operate hand and foot controlled equipment. Extended periods of standing, stooping and walking. Ability to wear respirator and other safety devices and clothing. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
