  • This national security position, which may require access to classified information, requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance as a condition of employment. Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination.
  • Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Required urinalysis for illegal drug use prior to appointment and subject to random drug testing thereafter.
  • Drug testing is not required for DoD civilian employees moving by transfer or reassignment from one DoD Testing Designated Position to another with no break in service.
  • Basic Requirement:
    I have a degree in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours are in calculus.

    In addition to meeting the basic requirement, qualified applicants must possess: One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-05 for GS-07 level; GS-07 for GS-09 level; GS-09 for GS-11 level; GS-11 for GS-12 level) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

    For the GS-07 level, you must have:
    • Sepcialized Experience is defined as: applying mathematical, statistical, or text analysis using software packages.
    • Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience: I have successfully completed one full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the position. (One full year of graduate education is the number of hours the school determines to equal one year. If this information is unavailable, 18 semester hours will be used as the standard.) (You MUST submit transcripts or proof of education to verify your claim.)
      • Superior Academic Achievement (S.A.A.) is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership. Bachelor's degree required or a senior in college can apply with certain considerations (please use link to OPM to determine if you qualify)
        • Class standing - Applicants must be in the upper third f the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses.
        • Grade Pint Average (GPA) -
          • 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or
          • 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum.
        • Election to membership in specific National Scholastic Honor Societies.

    For the GS-09 level, you must have:
    • Specialized Experience is defined as: applying mathematical, statistical, or text analysis using software packages and developing written summaries and reports to communicate analysis results.
    • Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience: I have successfully completed a Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D. that may be substituted to meet the specialized experience requirement. To be creditable, education must have been obtained from an accredited college or university. (You MUST submit transcripts or proof of education to verify your claim.)
    For the GS-11 level, you must have:
    • Specialized Experience is defined as: applying mathematical, statistical, or text analysis using software packages, communicating analysis results, and using those results to promote new policy formulation and oversight in order to enforce program integrity.
    • Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience: I have successfully completed 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a field directly related to the position. To be creditable, education must have been obtained from an accredited college or university. (You MUST submit transcripts or proof of education to verify your claim.)
    For the GS-12 level, you must have:
    • Specialized Experience is defined as: applying mathematical, statistical, or text analysis using software packages, and communicating analyses to promote new policy formulation, increased efficiency, and oversight in order to enforce program integrity.
    • Education is not substitutable for specialized experience for this grade level.
    Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
