Assessment Librarian

The George Mason University Libraries seek to fill the position of the Assessment Librarian. Responsibilities: This position assists in leading the library assessment program, participating in any activities that seek to measure the University Libraries' effectiveness in the implementation of its mission and values with the overall goal of promoting action for continuous, data-based improvement. Incumbent is responsible for designing and conducting assessment activities in collaboration with library faculty and staff, with a focus on user experience.

Duties: * Works with the Head, Library Assessment and Planning to oversee the Libraries' assessment activities and coordinate the integration of assessment with relevant positions and departments. * Partners with library departments to plan, design, and implement user engagement and experience assessments for digital and physical library resources and services. * Designs research projects and instruments to collect, analyze, and communicate assessment findings to appropriate stakeholders, including internal and external audiences. * Researches and analyzes a wide range of topics associated with academic research library services, programs and administration. * Uses knowledge of academic research library organizations and higher education generally to develop strategies to measure the effectiveness of existing services and programs, as well as new strategic initiatives. * Reviews, develops, implements, and maintains information systems to collect, process, and disseminate data for internal decision making and external reporting. * Provides consultation, training and documentation to support library faculty and staff involved in assessment activities. * Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: * ALA-accredited Master's Degree in Library or Information Science OR an equivalent certified foreign degree or related graduate degree; * Ability to design assessment projects, define research questions, and analyze data to improve services and programs and to guide decision-making; * Familiarity with assessment instruments such as surveys, focus groups, interviews, rubrics, and ethnographic methods; * Experience with data analysis, statistical, or visualization software applications (such as Excel, Tableau, SPSS, Nvivo, Atlas.ti or R); * Excellent interpersonal, communication (oral and written), and organizational skills; * Ability to work independently and as a team member to assess and shift priorities and to adapt a demanding and rapidly changing environment; * Experience with project coordination; * Experience in an academic setting, preferably in an academic/research library.
