Dewberry is seeking experienced GIS Analysts with 1-5+ years of professional experiences with geospatial and GIS analytical tasks. This position will mostly focus on GIS analysis and production efforts in support of FEMA Flood Insurance Studies, Risk Assessment and Resilience Planning projects and other water resource related projects in our Fairfax, VA office. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual to join a team of professionals while working in a multidisciplinary consulting and engineering firm. The position offers great potential for professional growth and the opportunity to apply the latest technology to flood studies and water resource projects. Typical responsibilities are to work on water resources projects for federal, state and local clients.

Responsibilities

Technical responsibilities include:

GIS
    • Data feature extraction/compilation;
    • Create a variety of digital mapping products using various software platforms;
    • Capture and analyze data;
    • Create and manipulate databases;
    • Elevation data Processing and Manipulation
  • Assisting engineers in hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, modeling, and floodplain mapping;
  • Production of Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMS) and updating related geospatial databases;
  • Developing flood risk products and performing flood risk assessments;
  • Perform analysis on GIS datasets for flood hazard mapping and risk projects;
  • Checking for graphical and technical accuracy of FIRM deliverables and associated reports;
  • Coordinating with the project team, project managers, clients, local communities, and other contractors to compile all data necessary to produce the most up-to-date produ


Required Skills & Required Experience

Required Skills:
  • 1-5+ years experience with geospatial analysis.
  • Bachelor Degree or higher in geography, GIS, or related field.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with the ESRI ArcGIS Desktop, QGIS, and PostGIS.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills utilizing GIS and presenting results orally and with supporting multi-media tools such as StoryMap.
  • Participates in resolving technical challenges.
  • Strong proficiency MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Access).

Desired Skills:
  • Experience programming algorithms using software packages such as R, Python, MATLAB, and ModelBuilder preferred.
  • Experience with relational databases such as SQL, Access, and PostgresQL preferred.
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, preferred.
